Word of advice, always play enough to upgrade heroes!

I have deliberately kept the heroes at level 5 as a TH8, because of the regen time. Upgrading them adds 3 minutes to the regen time and 3 DPS (BK) every level. It's not worth it if you want to Barch unboosted. If I get to TH9, I will get them to L10 or L15 max.

I have seen people in top clans having level 10 - 20 heroes as a TH10. So I don't think it's that important. Your attacking army comes first, then those defenses and if you have some DE to spare -> heroes.

I understand the logic of having stronger heroes. But if you are farming at a level where you do not expect maxed bases, lower level heroes will do. As a TH10, you don't need level 40 heroes to steamroll a TH9 or a new -> mid level TH10. If you are looking for loot or one star on these bases, that can be done as well.

If you are pushing for trophies - max level heroes will help a lot.

The extra 1-2 storages you can get every single raid means it is well worth it to upgrade those heroes. They will influence gold farming in a big way.

I try to keep them both asleep as much as I possibly can (especially the queen). Heroes are addictive. Once people get used to farming and doing clan wars with their heroes they complain constantly about not having them (as is shown by all the threads asking to be able to use sleeping heroes in clan wars). By keeping them asleep as much as possible I prevent myself from getting used to them so I don't rely on them. They are a nice bonus on the rare occasion that they are available. Nothing more. For the most part, I view heroes as base decorations that have to be destroyed (since they usually are just sleeping).

Lol. True. Soon as i used them both at same time for some farming after a push, that was it. Not done another hero upgrade since.

do you know how long it takes to up a hero to 30+?? more than 6 months! that's 6 months of constant upgrading without using them! its like saying save your money till you are age 70 to spend them, god know if you are gonna live that long and its awful feeling to focus your attention on something that you can't even use in a long long future.

Yes I do, my AQ is lvl 30, my BK is soon to be lvl 27, and soon i will be upgrading to th10. To do 10 more levels of each.

This is why I am amazed that I see so many TH9's in gold league or lower. Upgrading heroes should be the #1 priority for every TH9. Walls and even buildings (which you will easily max eventually) are simply not where the focus should be. It is all about the heroes. Even TH8's should spend enough time in crystal 3 to make sure their BK is level 10 before going to TH9.

And why is gold league bad for this? I have both heroes upgrading and my de storage is already nearly full to 200k (196k) in gold league, couple days before I can spend it.

This is my plan as well...even at 10 levels left for each after maxxing them at th9 will be a huge undertaking. With all the DE needed for dark troops, will be overwhelming to also have to up royals to a respectable level.

Supposedly common, but rarely followed. Even people that have been playing a year and half frequently don't have maxed heroes yet. I am glad it is so rarely followed though. I tend to raid in the upper end of where people of my town hall level should be and I rarely meet anyone with heroes anywhere near my level (which makes raiding so much easier). People on the forums talk about wall neglect a lot, but hero neglect is an even more common problem with a bigger consequence.

I think it's nearly impossible to expect most (even 1/16) ppl to have maxed heroes in 1.5 years of playing clash of clans.

Meh that's no fun, sure you'll get level 40s eventually and they'll be awesome but you'll be miserable until then. I take my heroes slow upgrade them when I can but I hate not having them for war.
