TH8 in a nutshell. [Base / Farming / Wars]

Base:

Copy that dude in your trophy range with 20+ defense wins. Should do the trick.

Farming:

Use 100 Barbs / 100 Archers to BARCH. Easy 50% for TH8's. Use King + CC to 50% TH9's.
Use 2 Healers / 16 Giants / 12 WB / 68 Archers / 2 HEALS / 1 RAGE. Guaranteed 100% on TH7, 2 Star on TH8. Do not use on TH9/TH10!

Gold / Elixir Farming:

I find a ton of loot in Gold. Here is a breakdown.
Gold III - 250 K + Split Bases every 27-33 nexts. Low chance of counter-raid by TH9's.
Gold II - 300 K + Split Bases every 38-45 nexts. Good chance of TH9's CR. ( A lot of them farm here.)
Gold 1 - Not such a good place to be. Loot is great, but you'll get hit hard by TH9 / TH10 crystal farmers.

DE Farming:

Crystal III is the key to success. Take advantage of league bonus and drop down to 1901+ to keep it while destroying poor TH8 CIII bases for their DE as well. You should get 800 ~ 1,200 minimum DE if you are competent.

Wars:

If you are not using 10 Dragons + 3 LIGHT, you are a dunce. Destroy AD closest to drop zone. Spread 'em like butter and get 100% on any TH7 or 8. Should 50% most unmaxed TH9's. No data on TH10.

Mass Drag raids are definitely pretty fun and are certainly powerful.

More respect to the players that do not succumb to just using this strategy, however. It's used sooooo much (because of it's power and effectiveness) that it's like a great song getting thoroughly ruined through being played out 50+ times a day on the radio.

Play as you like to play, however, step your coolness up and not only get good at Mass Drags but practice other strats too! You can start practicing GoWiPe at TH8... Level 5 Loons with level 3+ minions is pretty strong! Giant / Wiz / Wallbreakers can still be very strong if you deploy your troops properly. Many compositions can be both fun and devastating, it's just important to pay attention to how your troops react once deployed so that you can evolve and learn to deploy them in optimal fashion for better and better results.

Yeah I usually used 10 dragons with 3 rage at TH8. I used GoWiPe occasionally too.

If that's actually what you are doing, you are a dunce.
Its debatable whether 3 lightning or 3 rage is better. It depends on the base mostly. Use lightning for spread out ADs near edges, rage for centralized in the core.
When you use lightning spells, You destroy the AD farthest from where you are placing Dragons.
If you are actually getting 3 stars on near maxed TH8s with your method, I would be shocked.
