As the 1 gem boost hit us, I figured I have 2 options: I can either cry over the loot (or use more powerful army) or try to use this boost to make it to champs. I chose the second. this was my road...
As the new season started I was at 2150 decided to start up climbing slowly with loonion (although I'm terrible at this strategy and my minions are still lvl 4). Once I got to masters 3 I switched to gowipe. My gowipe troops are maxed for th9 and my queen is 13 and king is 12. I climbed slowly (usually 1 boost a day and about 3 hours of play) and reached a little above 3000.
At around 3100 it looked to me like I've it the wall and couldn't advance any further. 1 desperate rushed attack lost cost me the progress of the entire session and I got stuck there for 2 days. I decided that I had to have a long night shift to get it over with prepared my self for a long night...
I started the night session with 3088 trophies and found 2 extremely rare th7s in a row for 16 and 17 trophies. I knew this is gonna be it. Another gowipe and 3 th snipes got me to 3140. Then 3 great gowipes against th10 (I rarely found any th9 by that time but when I did I hit it) pushed me to 3193, so close I could feel it. What happened next while I was searching for my last strike was: "Attacking is disabled, you will be booted soon"...
By that time it was 4:30 am and I decided to go to sleep and hope for a snipe... I was lucky to be steamrolled by someone with 3500 trophies for only 4 trophies loss that took me to 3189. I knew I'll finish the job at work. At launch break I logged on again knowing I need a 2 star on 16 available trophies or a snipe for 11 trophies (or 2 attacks). I found an attackable th10 with 16 trophies and I was so excited. Another great gowipe made it exactly 3200!!! I was so proud.
With the boost it took me about 8 days and about 160 attacks won and 5-7 lost (average 3 hours a day). After it ended I felt like forest gump when he stopped running ("I'm pretty tired, I think I'll go home now")

My tips for other th9 trying to make it:
* Do not attack unless you are pretty sure you win. I loss is the most frustrating thing up there...
* Have a lot of patience, sometimes searched for more than 30 minutes
* If gowipe th10, pick easy accesible th with bad coverage of inferno towers (either only 1 covers th or both cover it at the edge and always have full spells on those)
My army comp was: 2 golems, 3 pekkas, 18 wiz, 6 wb, 1 barb or archer and anything for ground attack in cc.
