This one really bothers me too. But is comes from the contraction "should've", which sounds like "should of" when you say it. You'd think people would realize after reading "should have" thousands of times in their life that that's the correct word to use, but no.

could easily been Al-iksir ?! It's from Greek xerion and the most accepted english version spelling is ELIXIR.

In Arabic it is الاكسير the best way to pronounce it is al-exsir. But mostly I write it as Elixir. Anyway the meaning is the same whatever is the way you write it.
