Advice Poll TH8 to TH9

Hi all,

I am currently in TH8 and planning on going to TH9 in the beginning of next year. But, there is always discussion about maxing or not maxing your TH before going to the next. Now I want your advice on whether to max or don’t max my TH8 before I go to TH9.

Oh and I mean everything. So all lvl 8 walls (about 1/3 atm, not going that fast), 4 barracks (1 to go), all research, etc.

Please vote. If you want to explain or discuss please do. The votes will decide my choice and thus my path in CoC.

Forced to agree with him. Even with recent extra dark grabbing power at th8, its still going to be a real chore.
Get all the elix stuff done, and what you deem useful dark stuff.

You wouldn't regret if you did the walls for sure.
Do all the elixir lab, but when it comes to the DE only do what you use. I'd recommend getting minions/hogs since they're excellent at war (Especially hogs at l4, beasts)

walls are always nice to get them all if you plan eventually to max everything and have zap at th10... even if your aim is lavas or legos... but if you plan only doing lvl8... do them anyway because you are already into it (you won,t regret later)

barrack, it's a meh... you have enough with 3 max to do any kind of gowipe including 3pekkas, so it's not a big deal (but the hp will help average your base and also, because you can queue up a little more from all barrack)

so if you feel tired of upgrading stuff, i guess you are ready


otherwise, it is always nice before moving th to have at least one of the three (defense, army, walls) max

so if your defense is done.. you can go ahead
if all lab upgrades are done (at th8, if it is max, probably your defense is too) you can go ahead

and if only walls are done (which would be particular in my though since everybody do them last) then you could go

if you have 2/3 done, you can move up as you wish if you don't mind at all maxing everything


For me, i like having everything done... but there is no bummer to go anyway if you are please with the average of your progress

Only reason I have the 3rd barracks on is because I made a choice. Yesterday I had 3,5kk gold & 3,5kk elixir + 1 free builder.

My choices were: Upgrade 1 or 2 walls + a defense, or upgrade 7 walls & barracks. I chose the latter.

But when my 4th barrack is done, I'll soon have elixir to spare, but I guess i'll throw that on my miners then (collector+mines just lvl 9 xD)

Strongly disagree with maxing everything, for a few reasons.

First, the wall change- if you decide to max walls, you're stuck with elixir (by the time you're grinding walls, all your defences and elixir upgrades will be done, leaving you with lab upgrades only). That means you're wasting potential time with your elixir, which has no purpose. You're much better served using that spare elixir at TH9 to make a start on legos.

Secondly, DE is much faster at TH9. Those DE upgrades which take forever at TH8 (you can't defend more than 20k at TH8, don't even try) will be a breeze as TH9- as soon as you're moderately upgraded, you'll be able to store far more than that without much fear of being attacked, and the DE flows like wine at higher THs. Finishing your lab is much easier up high.

Third, you'll be left with builders twiddling their thumbs, doing pointless upgrades. Don't be that guy.

All the people saying max EVERYTHING really don't know what they're doing, or they're parroting dumb information from other people that don't know what they're doing. It's fully worth maxing your defences, it's worth maxing your main farming troops (and main war troops if you war), and it's worth maxing all your army camps/SF/lab. Your walls should at least be moderately upgraded, but especially in light of the elixir upgrade there is absolutely no need to max EVERYTHING. TH9 is the place to really focus on maxing (at least up to lego walls) because the upgrade times for builders and lab is far more balanced, and TH10 REALLY is a pain for loot compared to TH9.


If you're still not convinced, do this little experiment in your head. If you max 100 skull walls, that's 50mil gold and probably 50mil elixir you've farmed. If you went to TH9 instead and did the same farming, you might lose 10mil or so in gold+elixir due to loot penalty, but you could have 2 max xbows and 2 max wizard towers, as well as max lab, max spell factory, max army camps, and lv 6 giants, balloons, archers.

Maxed walls vs all that- what would you rather have?
