Yes, you can, I have done it before during wars (at the time I used 50 barbarians, 50 archers and 20 hogs). With hogs, bring 3 healing spells!!!
But there's a few things you need to be careful about. Basically with hogs lvl1 you need to make sure that you won't get any of them to trigger a giant bomb.
So I would only consider using them against an opponent who has no blank spot at all inside their base. They need to hit a defense, jump over a wall, and hit a defense immediately.
If you find a base like this, they will have their giant bombs outside so watch out when you send the hogs. Pick your spot, and then test for giant bombs with a barbarian.
Send the hogs all together. One or two of them will do nothing and will get easily destroyed. Sending them in two groups of 10 could be quite smart because they would divert the attention from splash damage. However I would advise against it because it means you have more troops to look after with healing spells. Especially as hogs always separate in different directions for some reason. So when I 3 starred some bases with hogs, I sent 20 at a time. They moved fast enough to not be hit by mortars, and if they did separate I would still have a bulk of say 15 hogs who stayed together and did the job.
Then, you need to be very careful with what is happening. Let me explain.
hogs target defenses, have low health, and jump walls. Which means that very quickly, they will be under fire from a couple of mortars, wizard towers, and all the point defense. and they have low health.
So basically you need to watch your hogs do the work and drop your heal spells in front of them. don't do anything else until you have no heal spells left to help them.
I once sent in my hogs and decided to do some other stuff, like sending my BK to do some damage from another side of the base. When I went back to my hogs, half of them were dead.
So to sum up:
Bring 3 healing spells
Make sure your hogs won't meet a giant bomb
test for giant bombs on the outside
Send your hogs all together
Watch them do the work carefully and pave their way with healing spells (litterally)
