I don't know if it is too complex. You can't casually 'war' with this idea as you can currently. Or at least you can't do this with the limited communications, and limited ways to sync up with others, while doing it in 2 days. This kind of attack on an epic sized base, or cluster of bases, would need to be a week long at least with these current limitations, and that's if the game interface is somewhat optimized for planning.

This 'multiplayer game' is based around one person battling with an AI ran base; albeit a player made base. It is not setup to handle battles that are used by more than one person. Even then, the main template of the battlefield would have to expand just to fit all the buildings 5 bases can have. That is just too much overhauling and rebuilding of the core system for a risky new idea. Another issue, likely a minor one, is finding other people to join you. With it being single player, anyone, at any time, can do a quick 3 minute or less battle. Before battle can start, you'd have to meet up with people, likely just clan members, and that can vary in difficulty depending on availability. Then in battle, you have to worry about if everyone is in sync with each other, or worst case, a member drops thier connection.

Much of Supercell's game scheme is to keep some things simple, and multiplayer assaults is not simple, even though it is done in other games. Much of the simplicity is for lower end devices, so they can use the game app. I don't know what percentage of thier market consists of people with lower powered mobile devices, but they could wind up cutting out part of their player base if they raised the requirements.

That's the problem. Game is stuck and people are getting bored of the same activities every day. SC should think about creating that new platform to reorganize the game and bring interest back. About lost connection, you're right, it's minor question, not worthy even to think of.

Any more interest in a different kind of clan war?

I really like this idea, but it will be a beast for SC to balance. It could easily become a horrible thing considering the lack of coordination in most clans. It'd be awesome for people in my clan, and definitly many others, but it would take a lot of teamwork. Sounds almost moba-like.

Because of the coordination needed, this massive base seige would be a week long war. Planning aids on the user interface would make or break this idea. Or it could be a seasonal war, with an equally epic loot reward at stake.

Idk, maybe that is too much to fight for, and too long a battle for some people. Then again, you aren't required to even do clan wars, or even join a clan, so something like this would be for clans that feel like they could handle it. Would be hard for low Town Hall bases to use my idea, since getting bases to use the sides as aids for defense would literally be a stretch.

Maybe both ideas could work. At higher town hall levels, you can use bases next to each other as a way to block deployment, while the base cluster idea works for both low and high level town hall bases.
