That might be the opposite of how most players feel. Planting someone in the opposing clan gives you an unfair advantage - you have knowledge of their trap locations, their CC contents, possibly even overhear chatter about what army they plan to use. In the worst case, you can even sabotage their efforts by putting bad troops in their CC troop requests.

No, most clans disagree with both of us. They think it gives some advantage (but I don't) but they also think its a clans job handle it, not SCs like you are saying.

I think it gives no advantage to me, but it does give me an advantage over them when they do it.

The reason I find no advantage to it is because I (really my whole clan) am able to, without going over, figure out all that stuff you speak of just analyzing a base. I would urge you to develop that ability for yourself (your words indicate you don't think its doable so I assume you cant, please don't take offense, I give this advice in a kindly spirit) and then you will not mind spying so much. You will in fact feel sorry for them and start taking advantage of their weakness they just shared with you.

Like the vast majority said, they come in because they can and that is your clan leader's fault. Now if you had the clan closed and they managed to join, then that'd be another story. That is not the case, so spying is not a crime. If you feel as though it's a huge problem…just close your clan.

I never said it was SC's job to handle it. In terms of countering spying, you are correct in that it is the clan leadership that has to take necessary precautions.

What I said was that a clan that leaves itself vulnerable doesn't excuse the opposing clan to send in spies. It's your choice to take cheap shots or not. I prefer to win with fair and clean gameplay, even if the opposing clan is totally open to spying.

I'm confused why you think I was implying that base analysis is impossible? Some bases are a bit more difficult to ascertain where certain key traps are, and it's on these types of bases where spying can provide an advantage.

Anyhow, my clan puts out videos on base analysis and approach, so we are hardly strangers to the task. Look up TheHulkFiles on Youtube for examples.

    Spies -

Info gained...... Location of traps, bombs, dead spots, contents of clan castle

counters............ Restrict clan access durring wars..... Use secondary layout durring prep day...

watching replays of failed attacks by clan mates -

Info gained...... Location of traps, bombs, dead spots, contents of clan castle

    counter............NONE

Well, yes, failing an attack does at least provide similar information so followup attacks will have an advantage. But that expends an attack and resources. The base has done its job and caused an attack to fail - that constitutes success, I don't think "countering" it is applicable.

Spying doesn't expend resources or attacks, while conferring a similar advantage. The fact that it can be countered by a wary opponent doesn't mean it isn't a cheap tactic.

Of course it is not cheeeting

Spying is used in every part of human life. the ugly word for it is Spying. The good word for it is surveillance. If spying is bad, then we will have to re write the world history. Some call it cheap, some call it dedication, some call it resourceful, some call it cheet.

We also don't use spying because it is unnecessary. Spying just gives an advantage that every 2nd attack gets. It is anyway not that tough to figure out the traps, not that you can do anything much about it most of the time.

I wrote this in a smaller thread that seems to have died

It is clearly against the spirit of the game Supercell intended otherwise all traps would be visible. Watching a replay to learn to how to maximise stars with a repeat attack is completely different and clearly within the spirit of the game, the base has already survived one attack. Do you play poker with your cards showing to your opponent, I don't think so.

Those who do it I think it says more about your insecurities and inadequacies in attacking than anything else. Whether your personal standards that accept spying as reasonable mean that you are moral invertebrates in real life is up for debate.

Supercell can fix this and hopefully will by making bases with traps visible only to members in clan war not everyone in the clan, 24/7 war clans can have open doors then.

For those of you who say it happens in real life and real wars, get a grip, this is clash of clans, a fun and competitive game where we escape from real life, romantic ideology perhaps but that is why I play this game....and if I am better than you great, if I am not I will try and improve. I am not afraid of failure in a game for goodness sake.

Hopefully SC ignores this sentiment and leaves it to the clans to handle. Time to man up folks. Stop crying about your opponents game and start beating them at it.
