Best use of gem at TH9

For me the best way using gems is boosting full-upgraded mines, is the way you earn more gold/elixir per gem.

Why are you so concerned with walls when your defenses are lagging that bad? Focus on defenses not walls. Especially after lv8, a mil per wall is excessive when you need to spend it upgrading cannons and archer towers

I'm not concerned with walls at all, but when your next free builder out of 5 builders is not free for 1-2-3-4-5-6-99999 days and you have 6 million/6 million in both gold and elixir, what do you do? Upgrades cost me 1-2 million max when my builder will be free so I'll still have 4 mill gold 6 mill elixir left, should I just not upgrade walls and keep it there doing nothing? It's pretty much that simple, I have too much resources for the minimal cost of upgrades so I use left over resources on walls and this is the result I get. I have max walls and my defenses are low because they take too long.

I agree that level 5 barbarians and archers are plenty at TH9. I arrived at TH9 about 5 weeks ago and have had zero problems farming. Two bows will be level 3 in a few days as well as two maxed drills. Currently have two wizard towers headed to 7 and queen at 5. My offense (camps, lab and factory) was the first thing I did. I have done loons, giants, golem 3 and just started witch 2 after finishing the few days left on golem to dump dark elixir on witches. I only did loons and giants for war and for when I start dark elixir farming to keep both heroes upgrading. However, my lab priority is always war troops before farming unless it is something like max loon upgrade. I boost racks if farming looks good and have no problems maxing my storages with level 5 barch. Not to mention I have already completed 115 lego walls and I only get to raid about 4-5 hours a day max. The gems you currently have is maybe enough to only instant finish one tier 1 troop if that. I would use them to keep your barracks boosted instead.

I'm actually in a similar situation. I'm about 4-5 weeks into TH8 (from a fully maxed TH7) so my buildings are not maxed yet. My important defenses like splash are maxed and the troops I use for farming/wars are maxed (except Golems which are upgrading to lvl 2 now). There are still lab upgrades like spells and dark troops I don't use too. However, I have maxed skull walls and sit on maxed storages, which really sucks. I'm probably going to wait a few weeks though so I'm not too rushed.

As for what to spend the gems on, I'd say just save them for boosting barracks during TH9, since it seems like you play a lot. I've got 1.5k gems left and I just boost a few times every day. Occasionally I'll gem a building if it's going to finish an hour or two after I go to sleep so my builder won't be idle.
