I got my tree and got a single present. I waited 24 hours but never got a 2nd so I chopped down my tree....2 days later I got another tree with a single present.
I wonder if its better to chop chop the tree ASAP so you can get another one with a new present instead of waiting....
It WOULD be nice to know the real truth behind the Christmas tree / presents so people arent just waiting for days.
The X-Mas tree seems to be on alot of people's mind for some reason. All obstacles have a spawn probability; this is the chance that any of the ~10 types of vegetation will pop up. If the X-Mas tree was like any other small tree (2x2), that weighting is currently 20%.
From the CoC wikia, the X-Mas tree appears to have a low 2% pop-up rate.
There's nothing in theory you can do 'encourage' any particular vegetation type to appear. A new vegetation appears every 8hrs in supposed design based on its weighting; however, in the 14mo's I've been playing I have not observed that to be the case on my base - perhaps 8hrs _cumulative_ of being offline. Also, a 1tile buffer is required. Then there's this thread from x-mas 2013.
I wonder however if SC has ever admitted that _everyone_ gets the X-Mas tree.
