No, all of these features can be obtained without gems with a lot of patience. I know of some TH10s that got everything legit-only using gems to boost their barracks.

So the only way to get stronger is to pay? Funny, every single feature in this game can be unlocked without purchasing a single gem. Basically what you want is the game to be ridiculously easy so you can build a strong base in a few months with what took other people 2 years to do.
