So recently, I have seen a lot of threads theorizing why the leak has happened. All of them, mine included, have been closed, with no mod message? Why? I ask? Is Supercell embarrassed over a big mistake? Or do they gave a big surprise under their sleeve that they don't want people speculating about? Interesting questions. Anyways, here is my thread that was closed for no apparent reason:
As I state in the title, I see four possibilities, which I will explain and elaborate on their probability. Also, please vote on which you think is the most likely below! Much appreciated. 😄
So, anyways, here are the four reasons:
1. This is all a coincidence. Some guy photoshopped a supposed update screen. Supercell had already planned to release some of the items, so they decided to stroke the forum fires by releasing sneak peaks that were similar to the leak.
(This explains why the Mod's post count was incorrect, but still seems pretty unlikely with the accuracy of the leak so far. 5/10)
2. A miscommunication inside Supercell. For example, maybe Supercell was orginally going to release the update with no sneak peaks, but then changed their minds. Not all Supercell employees were aware of this, so they still released the update page, (hence the ETA 8/12) which was subsequently removed. Because of this, the leak is true.
(This does not explain the incorrect post count, but that could be because it as originally posted a while ago. But then, why was it only leaked now? However, the accuracy of the leak and official sneak peaks seems to be too close to be a coincidence. 9/10)
3. The leak was simply a leak. Some Supercell employee or a häćker accessed an area of the forums for Supercell Employees only, and subsequently released a screenshot of a planned version of an announcement. Supercell is embarrassed or wants it to all blow over, and so ignores it.
(Again, this explains the incorrect lost count and ETA time, and also Dec 8 was when many of the forum members expected a new update, which seems to indicate a regular member created the leak. But again, this seems most unlike Supercell to largely ignore something this big. 9/10)
4. This is a publicity stunt. Maybe Supercell decided to ramp up the anticipation for this next update by intentionally leaking the photo. It definitely seems to have worked! 😄
(Though this definitely explains the accuracy of the sneak peaks, it seems quite unlike Supercell. The backlash from such a move would be pretty substantial, possibly out weighing the gain. 7/10)
In conclusion, though it could be any of the reasons above, I think it was most likely either the result of bad communication within Supercell, or a link that Supercell is too embarrassed to acknowledge. However, this opinion could easily change if more information emerges. Thank you guys for reading, and comment below!
