What order do you upgrade defences (and how does it affect war rank)?

I am a fairly new TH9. I read somewhere that building and upgrading xbows can seriously affect your war rank, and that some hard core war clans dictate what defences you can upgrade and in what order. That seems a bit extreme to me, but knowing the best order to upgrade defences so as to not affect my war rank too much would be very handy to know.

I saw my clan leader jump from approx #9 to #3 in war rank around the time his xbows went to level 2, so maybe there is some logic to this.

Just wondering everyone's opinion on the best order to upgrade defences, and why. Thanks.

On the first month in th9 i am busy upgrading non defensive troops.
I focus on drills, camps, dark barracks, storages,
Never be afraid in clan rank.
If you dont want to get your rank get high immediately. Skip one of the defensive buildings. (Dont build them even at level 1) If you skip one. Your defense rating will be much lower compared to others even though your other buildings are in their respectable level.

doing your resources is a great place to start, some upgrades in the lab are good, and definitely your unit capacity.

As far as military structures, TESLAS are superb, and wiz towers were my priorities. From there, I went to motors.
Then other single shot buildings.

From what I know, clan war ranking is determined based on the total amount of upgrades of your ENTIRE base itself, it's more of a cumulative thing. Some higher lvl upgrades like X-bows definitely do impact your ranking in your clan heavily because it's an advanced defense, cost a lot of gold and gives lot of EXP because of that.

I'm also quite a new TH9, currently only lvl 90. I intend to prioritize my 2 dark elixir drills to lvl 6 first and foremost, and that's where the majority of my elixir will be diverted to for now. Then maybe followed by army camps, so with most of my elixir being used for such upgrades, my lab is going to be idle for a while, though I'm currently researching Giants lvl 6 (use them in war).

As for defenses, I'll be allocating one builder to work on Teslas only, have one currently upgrading to lvl 7, and 3 more to go. Teslas are one of the more powerful defenses one can get at TH9, so it's good to focus on that first, although 12 days is quite long to wait. Then I will be working on the mortars and Wizard Towers to their maxed-TH9-lvls.

X-bow will be among the last of my upgrades because even when upgraded, the damage increase is not really that impactful IMO.

I would do wizard tower first, then x-bow and tesla.
