We have a few separate chat groups and 1:1 for our clan on Dasher.
Pretty simple and fun chat app, works better than GroupMe for what we need imo.

We use whatsapp but this is used only for non game related chat to keep the game chat clear in most cases, but I would advice to only add long time members to the group. Especially in the build up phase of the clan you have tons of players that have your phone number.
