Loot, can’t live without it, can’t live… Well… Without it.
This thread, due to its size, will be split into two parts. Part 1, will be for the people who don’t mind reading a long, but detailed thread. Part 2, will be a short, condensed version of the same thing. But it will only be bullet points. It’s for either the people who skip to the end, or have literacy problems/don’t like reading. If that’s you, scroll down to part 2.
Now this thread is for discussion, feedback and learning. Under no circumstance are people to insult me, or anyone. You are allowed to have different opinions to what is said. But, no crude, mean or derogatory remarks are to be made.
PART 1:
Welcome to yet another loot thread. Before we get into things, according to the search function, 500+ threads have been created with the word loot mixed with any of the following words: bad, sucks, horrible, worst. The search caps at 500 results, so the number could be significantly higher.
For months, people have been screaming at how bad the loot is. The replies come from 3 kinds of people. The, “Yes! Loot Sucks!” group (group 1). The, “Great more people who don’t know how to farm” group (group 2). And the, “Loots not great, but it’s not awful either” group (group 3). And all 3 present very valid arguments. At one point, it got to the stage where a mod, (an awesome one at that) had to create a sticky, because the forums were just overflowing with loot threads. It had over 8,000 replies, making it one of the biggest threads in forum history.
There are even groups dedicated to discussing how bad the loot is.
So what does this all say? Something, is not right. What that something is, we shall discuss further. But ultimately, one group. Is correct. The aim of this thread is to hopefully get down to that inevitable fact.
The poll below shows the majority of people find that loot is bad.
This however, is a contradiction in itself. Every single clasher has a different standard for what is considered to be acceptable loot. If one person is happy with 100K, but 20 people are only happy with 200K, does that one person’s opinion then not count?
What this means, is that we can’t have a single poll to determine whether loot is good.
It simply is impossible. If one person in all of CoC is finding good loot, then automatically they win. Because it means loot is out there. In saying that, it’s true, loot isn’t what it once was. But, neither is the game. HEAPS has changed. For example, total loot people are stealing has decreased. But the league bonuses has increased hugely.
Now many of group 2 would argue that people are in a league too low, and they should push up. They might also argue that the army composition they are using is not suitable for farming (example, gowipe probably isn’t the most cost effective for farming).
Group 1 would respond by saying not everyone can farm in champion’s league. It takes lots of practise. And some people, simply don’t have the time. Also very true. Speaking as someone who has farmed in champ, I can tell you 2 things,
A: The loot is incredible.
B: It is VERY time consuming.
For hardcore farmers, pushing to a higher league might be the solution, if you can stay online for long periods of time, chances are this is the place for you. But, for casual players who don’t have the time, it presents a bit of an issue.
Side note: I would not expect a town hall 7, 8 or even 9 to push to champ. 2200 might be your peak for pushing, but I guarantee the loot bonus higher up is worth it for any level of town hall.
The alternative, is to sacrifice that juicy league bonus, and go purely for resources. (No doubt some of you are screaming at me while reading this, saying, “duh! That’s what we have been asking for.”) So, where is that loot then? Is it in all those inactive bases we used to find? Or is it in a certain trophy range? Well, the answer is both. Those in-actives are so rare to find now, it’s nearly time to give up on the thought of them. In fact, it IS time to give up on them.
I first came up with the idea for this thread a little over a month ago. And, I have been working on it since that day. Not writing it as such, but thinking about it, experimenting with trophy ranges and following every loot related thread on the forums.
When I say experimenting with trophy ranges, I mean I have spent a week in every trophy range. Things will vary for others as I am a town hall 10. But, what I can tell you, is where some sweet spots are.
SUB 200:
This league brings no loot bonus or sparkly shield, but what I have found, is a HUGE amount of storage raids. The trick is keeping your trophies low, in some aspects, I found it harder than maintaining cups at 4,000, just because every time you log off you win a bunch of defences. Now, when I say sub 200, I mean 0-199. If you are at 200, 201, 257 or whatever. You will NOT find them. You MUST be under 200. Here is just three raids, I didn’t next more than 7 times on any of them.
BRONZE LEAGUE/SILVER LEAGUE:
A town hall 7+ should stay away from these leagues. I did 3 raids here, and the average search was 83 next’s for a raid more than 100K. However, if you are a town hall 2-6 and can make it up to here, then by all means. You should find some juicy bases.
GOLD LEAGUE:
My 3 raids in gold were interesting. Obviously the league bonus is worth peanuts, so no help from that. I did however find one of the coveted abandoned bases, of which I stole 380K, and the best part was it was on the 4th search. My second and third raids however. 211 next’s between the two of them, still made 150K+ on both of them, but is it worth it for the time searching? I’ll leave that up to you to decide.
CRYSTAL LEAGUE:
Whoop! Finally, league bonus starts to become worthwhile. It’s still not heaven, but if you use a simple bam army, the league bonus covers the army cost. My 3 raids here were not awful. But not something that will be told around a campfire 100 years from now. 108 next’s between the 3 raids, all 150k+. I can live with that, and I’m sure most town hall 9’s+ could.
However, from observations this seems to be the sweet spot for town hall 7’s and 8’s.
MASTER LEAGUE:
Dark Elixir. EVERYWHERE! No matter what town hall you are, if you’re in a jam, and need DE quick, this is the place to be. In fact, just searching for DE seems to be effective for farming gold too, the league bonus covers army cost in elixir, plus, you get a little extra gold in your pocket. Town hall 8 and under, you will more than likely have your base crushed here. By all means, if you are one of those people who can stay on a long time, then a horrible defence can be made up in a few attacks, and then every attack you do after puts you in the positive, but be warned, it’s not easy.
CHAMPIONS LEAGUE:
A sexy red badge, a league bonus of 180k, what can go wrong!? It’s not easy to maintain cups, but it’s definitely worth it if you can. I managed to farm 10 lavas in one day in champs using barch. Below is an example of the loot in champs. Now that 60k gold raid… Big whoop! But then add an additional 180K gold from the bonus. And suddenly it’s not so bad.
If you can farm in champ, do it.
And, this concludes part 1. Thanks to those who stuck it out and read the whole thing, I hope this sheds some light on the "loot crisis", whether you agree with what I have said or not. Please discuss your reasons, and we can have a civil discussion about why we think what we think.
