An individual whose primaryjob function involves livestock and/or agriculture. A farmer takes all the necessary steps to ensure proper nourishment of the items that he/she raises and then sells the items to purchasers. Some farmers have been able to capitalize on the need for high-demand products that they produce, such as organic vegetables and livestock.

LOL trying to be funny huh? Here's the real definition.

In video games, it's when you collect a bunch of a certain item in order to power yourself up.
    http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Farming

farming refers to a gaming tactic where a player, or someone hired by a player, performs repetitive actions to gain experience, points or some form of in-game currency. Farming usually involves staying in a game area with a spawn point that generates endless numbers of items or enemies. The player collects the items or continuously kills the enemies for the experience, points and currency.

Farming is also known as gold farming or experience (XP) farming.

Everyone that has a TH exposed is a farmer, but not all farmers expose their TH.

I consider farming to mean you are constantly going out and "harvesting" the crop aka loot. You go out take as much as you can and you stock up. You are active and raid frequently.

Having an exposed TH just makes it easier to retrain your loot, but the act of Farming is an offensive position while exposed TH is a defensive.

Typically, no one gives away free trophies for free shields unless their focus is on resources.... aka Farming.

If you care more about trophies than resources, you are no longer farming and would not benefit from an exposed TH.

Not really true. Someone who puts TH outside is someone who wants cheap shield. Does not mean he is farming. This is especialy true in higher leagues.

To me a farmer is someone who raids a lot each season to progress faster in the game. I was a bit of farmer when I smashed my Legos and Lavas out as a TH 9.

Most will leave their TH outside hoping to get a free shield to protect their stolen goodies.

To farm is to collect a specific item as fast and efficient as you can.

There are 2 ways to progress in this game:

    1 - Get maxed base
2 - Get up the trophy ladder

For number 1, you need to find ressources as fast as you can. You can do that with attacking people, collecting collectors, war. The fastest way to do it is to attack people as much as you can. Because the other 2 are time dependant. You cannot collect full collectors 4 times a day or war 4 times a day. If you attack alot, you are farming ressources.

For number 2, you need to collect trophies as fast as you can. You can do that by attacking or defending. We all know defending in Master1/Champion is rare. Fastest way to collect trophies is by attacking people as much as you can, with limiting their attacks. So if you attack alot, you are farming trophies.

So, to farm is to attack alot.

If you aren't farming, you don't have much resources. Why do you need a shield if you don't have any loot to protect?

In CoC, you are either Farming or Pushing.... or inactive.

If you are active, you are doing one of the two things above. If you have your TH exposed, you are not pushing as every trophy counts. Farmers may opt to keep their TH protected, but you do not expose your TH if you are pushing.

You hardly see exposed THs in higher leagues....

There are quite many people who expose their th while pushing, just to avoid 2-3 stars.

Because they are shielded 24/7 when not attacking. To some people, 1 star snipe is better than losing 3 stars on a 100%
