Upgrading town hall after maxing out attacks only (leaving out defenses and storages)

Is this a more sensible way of upgrading?

I am new at town hall 7 and I am not too happy with the loot here.

Loot depends only on our attacking capabilities (troop level, army size, spell level etc). At town hall 8 I will get better attacking ability and hence better loot (in absolute number terms).

I don't have to max out my defenses before moving to town hall 8. I can do that after I reach town hall 8. Because the amount I loot with TH8 troops will be higher in absolute amount because of better offense (even after percentage loot reduction) and I will require lesser efforts to max out my defense buildings.

So, after maxing out my barracks, dark barracks, lab, spell factory, army camps and troop upgrades, I am planning to start town hall 8 upgrade. It takes 8 days for town hall 8 to finish so I will do remaining upgrades in that time.

I don't need defenses because I am not storing anything. I usually spend it on upgrades anyway. And defenses are useless against 200 level 5 archer army anyway. I get 3 starred by 200 level 5 archers easily. So, it is futile to focus on defenses or walls at this moment. And I am not concerned about war wins either.

I don't think there is any issue with this kind of strategy. What do you guys think?

You get owned by 200 level 5 archers because your defense probably sucks, like you said.

You might not store anything yet, but when you get higher, upgrades cost a hell of a lot more and take a hell of a lot longer. So you WILL start having to store large amounts of resources. If you upgrade your TH now, you'll lose more when you get attacked, and get less loot when you attack, due to the TH penalty. If you've maxed your troops for your TH, that's a great position to be in, in order to get all the loot for your defences. If you don't do it now, it will cost more later (in absolute terms, as you said).

Plus, your base will suck for wars, if you're into them (which you said you're not)

But it's your base, do whatever you want.

Wait till you reach the point where upgrade costs are equal to the max resources your storage can hold. And with your weak defenses, good luck defending your loot that maybe even 1 TH level lower than you can wreck your whole base.

Looting does rely only on your offense, yes..... however, the available loot is based on TH level --- so you will see less availbe loot on your travels, also, once you get to TH8 and above, the upgrades are all millions and take many days (up to a week) -- you will have a hard time saving up th8 requirements, with just th7 defenses, as you will be fair game for TH7,8 and th9 who will all be plundering your loot, especially as it will be like taking candy of a baby....

You would probably need to stay down in lower leagues, which may slow down your DE collecting somewhat, ....

(just a couple of things to consider)

Ok. Thanks everyone for inputs. I guess, I will have to be patient. Maxing out TH7 will take at least 1.5 months. I will focus on walls as well. Will max out everything including the walls. The old-fashioned grind.

There was once someone join our clan and he keep asking for wall breakers.

Out of curiousity, I decide to take a look at his base..... gosh, he has TH4/5 defences, level 40 or so, and was upgrading to TH9.

I ask him why he is rushing to TH9, and he tells me he plan to upgrade to TH10, thereafter, he will max everything.

I try to convince him this is not a good way to do it, but he dont listen. Not long later, he left and join another clan....

Doesn't have to be all or nothing ....... you could upgrade key defenses, to give yourself a better chance of holding your loot --- But in gerneral its better to be as strong as possible -- hard enough to find loot these days, so you want to make sure you can hold on to it, long enough to spend it ...... (I would def say max TH8 if you can - it seems to be the sweet spot for loot)

    Good luck

Baaaaaaaaaaad way. There's quite a few players that did this, and they all restarted their accounts.

Loot penalty hits you like a wrecking ball,
and upper level player will hit you like a meteor.

If you say you have problem with loot at TH 7, you certainly have problem.
At TH 7, most of the collector bases consists of about 300k loot ( 70% capped ) And at TH 8, they're about 200k.

So. nope. you should not rush your th and only upgrade offensive stuffs. upgrade everything

    Good plan - almost

I think it is a brilliant plan. To max your offence before defences, however now it is time to knuckle down and upgrade and max your defences and max walls if you want before TH upgrade.

It will hurt your to try to farm beyond your current TH with your current defences. You won’t be able to farm enough and stay on Coc long enough to ensure your loot is protected.

I'm pretty sure that as a TH7 you have access to lv6 Army Camps, and lv3 Spell Factory. The only thing you get at TH8 army wise is the lv10 Barracks (some dark Barracks maybe?) and the lv6 Lab. Don't forget the loot penalty. You get that great thing. From experience, it is much easier racking up resources as a TH7. Plus you can attack weak TH7 bases with no loot penalty, which is great. And if you stumble across a weak TH8, even better. Stay at TH7, look up some attqcking strategies, and base designs. It's easier in the long run, if you go step by step.
