Should I upgrade all of my DE troops before upgrading my th?

There are 155 days of lab time to max everything for TH 9, provided you got everything maxed at TH 8 before. Compared to 147 days for TH 8. So I think the "plenty of time later" argument does not quite hold

I'm in more or less the same situation. All elixir upgrades done, valks done, hogs lv 3 done tonight, which leaves two levels for the minions, one for the hogs - plus golem.

I think I might skip the golem. I will definitely do all the rest. The time the lab upgrades take should be plenty to do my remaining 3 archer towers, 3 teslas (all just one level to do) plus 80-90ish walls.

The reason I think about skipping the golem is the fact that I'm pretty much left alone with around 30k in my DE storage, people snipe my exposed TH most of the time. When I was saving up DE for the first time, as soon as I hit around 40k, every single attack went for my DE ... so when I finally reached 50k, I decided to just do the valks instead of saving more.

With TH 9 and maxed drills your daily income from drills is 4800 units. Compared to 1080 with TH 8 that's a huge difference.

When going from 7 to 8 I skipped the BK precisely for that reason. Upgraded everything else, but left him at lv 1. I had him up to 5 with TH 8 in no time while the lab was busy doing all the elixir upgrades. I have him at lv 10 now, much much easier ... so I hope 60k will just not seem as much for TH 9 as it does now.

Anyway, maybe I'll just do it and upgrade literally everything. Haven't made up my mind, yet.

Flawed logic. Loot penalty for someone who doesn't farm much de (~51,000 HH) vs getting 200/hr instead of 45/hr is nothing. Not to mention the th 7's generally won't have a ton of de that you can grab anyway (only 5% loot from de storage before any penalties, no drills). Generally speaking the discussion of extra loot penalty is referring to the fact that a th8 vs th7 is a 10% penalty whereas a th9 vs th7 is a 50% penalty. The 10% penalty attacking th8's is generally of minimal concern when talking about advancing too soon.

Yes, but do those upgrades go faster because I'm at th9 instead of th8? So what difference does it make if I hold off on upgrading my th to get them upgraded 1st? If everything else is upgraded and I'm sitting capped on gold/elixir, why not be spending some of that gold/elixir instead of sitting there waiting 9 months for just my de upgrades?

No because its way easier to get Dark Elixir in town hall 9, if you maxed everything (including walls and normal elixir troops) just upgrade your town hall no point in staying

I'd at least max out your Barbs and Archers before you make the jump. They are your farming army, and will be utilized most at any TH. Any other troop is just a luxury really.

purple walls and skull walls both look the same to a wall breaker...

It takes 2 lvl5 or 2 lvl 6 to break either one.

Well, I guess they look different to a lvl 4 wall breaker but you shouldn't fear anyone who only has level 4 wall breakers..

While I agree that elixir and gold are harder to get as a TH9 then they are as a TH8, and DE is easier to get as a TH9, you'll want to pump all your DE into your heros once you get there...

I guess my advice is that you shouldn't wait with full gold and elixir storage, but if you still have a use for the gold and elixir it may pay off to hang around a little while longer...

I regret jumping to TH9 when I did. I should have stayed another week or three...

U said u don't farm much. I play a lot n rushed to th9 by current standards and don't regret s thing. Yes loot penalty all it means is no more barch on th7s. I got the queen instantly and learned to keep her alive very well. I just hit th8 in gold 1/2 n get plenty gold Elixor n 500-1200 on average de. My xbows got maxed right away n stole plenty of de the only thing that sucks is every time u upgrade her it sucks playing. Also L6 Giants is expensive with spells but u can snag de from th9 as well as 8s. To each there own but playing with barracks n heros boosted I def had to go to th9. Don't plan on going th10 anytime n I mean anytime soon haha. Th8 easy to bully and so u know u gunna have to raid or camp for quite some time. For example de drill to L6 is 5m Elixor n it will be hard for a camper to stay busy at th9 as most upgrades at least 3.2m.... Also 99% of my raids are done with barb/archer few goblins n queen
