Short of not rushing and avoiding one or two upgrades you find unnecessary there's not much different you can do. The progression in the game is completely linear. I don't even think it matters much the order of upgrades. People get so obsessed about doing things in the right order, but over a few playthroughs I find it doesn't really matter much.
I would make a defenseless account.

I am in the same boat as you. I have a maxed TH10 (bar walls and heroes) base and have recently started another account that is now at TH5. The mistake I made with my first account was not maxing my mines and collectors.
At the time I thought they were worthless as I could raid so much more than they produced and I would scoff when people told me I should upgrade them. I only maxed them after every other building in my village was maxed.
Looking back on it though I realise how silly I was, just in half a year of playing if I had maxed them I would have had 78million more loot. That's free loot with absolutely no effort. I could have had another 20+ lvl10 walls now. What an idiot.
As a fellow max defense TH10, I too have a second "mini" account. I rushed up to TH8, as in did walls and troops I needed, splash defense maxed first, then go to next TH till TH8. I have had it a long while, 3 builders, but it has grown into a little machine now
The best parts of my experience so far;
- As you said yourself, refreshing to say the least.
- Seeing the contrast to TH8 de farming to TH10 de farming.
- Clan wars.
It's been a long haul project, really low amount of time spent on it. Any gems I gain are spent on boosting for a few hours a day here or there. Not spent a penny on it and never will, absolutely no point.
Only play it if you enjoy it, if you find yourself feeling it a grind, take a brake from it.
Good luck!

I would play more.
Tbh, I've spent about 2 hours on Clash over the past 6 months.
I've a second account and I am rushing to TH10 and upgrading Archers, Barbs, Wizards and drags on the way. In buildings only collectors and mines. It's a super premmie TH7 with L2 walls!!
I maxed walls every TH (including 9) the first go around so no regrets there.
I started my second account within weeks of my first and it was fun until the second one was mid TH 8 or so. Then I rushed it to TH 9 with maxed spash and again to TH 10. Now it has fully maxed donating troops that I can share with my main account and clan mates plus the defenses to protect it as long as I keep the TH out.
Eventually I got the itch for a third account, I didn't realize it my first go around, but you can max TH 6 walls and all very easily by just maxing your collectors early and not even bother farming. You can also max TH 7 (minus walls and king) with builders busy round the clock the same way assuming you only have three builders. Where the road block lies is TH 8, trying to save up for upgrades without session raiding is very difficult, your resource production is the same as TH 7 but upgrades are much more costly. On the third account I usually have 2/3 builders free and wall progress is at a halt. I can see why the majority of abandoned bases I found were rushed TH 8's.

Tarlus - Red Thorn, Max TH 12 and Frildor - Sagittarii max offense TH 12
I'm doing an account that has never raided, upgrades and walls are going to be purely from collectors(no gemming). I'm at townhall 4 almost maxed besides walls. Also i still have the 5 wizards from the beginning of the game xD
