Perhaps you dont know how to use them good?
This was a rant after using them for the first time in a war and only getting 18% because they got shot down in about 10 seconds. I tried to use them like a golem, send them in first to absorb fire and then send drags in behind them. They died so fast I barely had a chance to deploy my drags. Maybe for different troop configurations, or in more capable hands, they're OK but they're pretty useless to me. I'm just barely a TH9 (upgraded a few weeks ago) with ~1500 trophies. My main focus for normal attacks is loot, so I use a simple BAG army. I only get into using these more complex armies during war and I only get 4 war attacks a week so I don't get a lot of practice. Perhaps I'll change my mind later, but I'm not planning on using them again any time soon.
P.S. They aren't my hands, I still need practice. But these replays from my war clan member shows hope!

I'm terrible with the Hound. I haven't tried it much since I first got it, was discouraged. Felt like I was better off with six more loons than the hound. Maybe once I upgrade it, we'll see if it makes a different.
I was attacked twice with Hounds in war, neither time did it look like it made a big difference.
I really thought they would be immune to infernos, Lava? I mean c'mon lol
Upgrading mine to level 2 now i'll give the pups a try when I get them to 3

I have lvl 2 - cant do jack with them.
never use them anymore
Man you must be terrible at this game if you think Hounds are useless.
There are 2 scenarios here.
1. You used them once and they died. You didn't like that.
2. You don't know how to use them.
Scenario 1 and 2 can be linked if necessary.
Result: you don't know what you're talking about.
What is this that I feel and what is this that I fear?
Maybe. Although looking at some of the videos I'm still not convinced they're that useful. I'm not sure the results of some of those attacks would have been any different if they had replaced the two hounds with 12 more balloons instead.
But in all honesty I've never really focused my attacks on stars/trophies. My normal daily attack is a simple smash and grab BAG attack with the sole purpose being to steal as much loot as possible. I tend to be about 50/50 on wins, which is why I only have 1500 trophies. But accoring to my stats I've stolen over 260m of each gold and elixer and I've only been playing since Feburary. So my attack strategy seems to serve it's purpose. (That works out to about 1m of each per day)
War just gets harder and harder as a clan progresses, so I highly advise you develop a good variety of attacks outside of war. You are absolutely correct, 4 attacks in a week are not going to let you develop a quality attack strategy. Start by watching youtube attacks and talking to others who are successful with those troops. Then try in multi-player, looking for bases similar to what you attack in wars. Know that your first 10 attacks are just practice, don't expect them to succeed, but learn from them. Once you have it down, make sure you continue to practice pretty frequently outside of war, a great time to do this is your overnight cook.
That is what quality players do, it is a very complex game and it takes a lot of understanding and experience to become a well rounded attacker in clan wars. Practicing new techniques is essential, and practice during clan wars is a great way to look like you don't have a clue and the troops you use suck, even when you are otherwise a decent player and using decent troops.
