Get more builders to start with. 3 isn't really that much.

Builders!!!! And use some of the gems to boost barracks here and their to get some good raids and fast in.

I'm surprised you only have 3 builders at 8. I had my fourth at TH 7. Trust me, as your projects take longer to complete, you'll need someone to take care of that extra loot you accumulate for walls or traps.
