Not sure if it's been an idea, but possible option to save a few village build ideas. Maybe being able to use gems to buy additional slots to save...Idk. but limit it to 2 or 3 build saves.
If you have a build plan for protecting your resources, and if you have a build plan for protecting your town hall....
I think this would be very beneficial to anyone at any lvl.
This has been suggested many times, and I'm hoping it will be in the game soon.

This would save a lot of time for something that everyone does anyway! I think that you should have 2 saveable layouts to start with then more for gems, as you suggested.
