I had been reading a lot about dropping below 200 trophies to gather loot so I experimented with it. FYI I am a level 82 TH8 with mostly maxed defenses, maxed troops and army camps.
I'm sure other players are curious about this so I thought I would post my experience and observations:
First, I would say dropping below 200 as a TH8 is worth it only if
- You and your clan don't care about trophies (duh), AND
- You have a mechanism to stay online 24 hours per day while in this trophy range, OR
- You have at least a few hours to spend doing nothing but CoC
You must go below 200 trophies. Near 200 isn't good enough. 201 isn't good enough. Go below 200 trophies, then the matchmaking system switches and you will find mostly TH 7, 8, 9, and 10. Compared to Gold and lower level Crystal leagues, these bases will tend to have a lot of loot. However, they also generally have good defenses -- you might need to hunt a little bit to find an easy base to barch; otherwise plan to use a more robust army.
You need to try to avoid winning battles. At this range you can easily get 30 to 40 trophies for a win and lose only 1 to 3 for a loss, so its easy to get bumped above 200 and then have to spend a while getting back down.
Because of the relatively small population of bases, this trophy range is VERY ACTIVE. You CANNOT GO OFFLINE, NOT EVEN FOR A MINUTE. You are guaranteed to be 50-100% by a high level player within 1 to 2 minutes of your device going offline. If you come back just 5 or 10 minutes later, your loot will be gone and you will most likely be around 300 trophies.
There is some good, lucrative hunting in this range but my advice is to drop to the range, do your hunting, and climb back out substantially without ever going offline. Make sure you set up your device to keep you online, or stay with the game the entire time.
