Clear obstacles, save up gems, and then buy elixir.

Go to silver 1 league, train barch (2 barracks full of barbs and 2 full of archers) and go find a collector base. There are plenty there for th7s, and 4-6 raids should get you 1m.

If I remember correctly this upgrade is available from TH5. Don't worry about it, focus on other troops and if your lab is maxed then just leave that upgrade out. When you get to a higher TH, you'll be able to rake in enough elixer to upgrade it.

labratory is max.

What I said should work the same for th5, just use 1 barrack for barbs instead of 2 and stay in bronze 1 and silver 3.

Getting a million gold or elixir seems difficult at first, but really it's not. I'm not sure what league is good for a TH5, but use barch and raid constantly until you have a million elixir. It's very simple.
