The threads I have seen are just asking for the introduction of merchandise, but obviously going into material items can be risky/costly. This is a solution I have been thinking of:
SUPERCELL should create a kickstarter for limited edition runs of high quality merchandise (ie. Hand crafted sculptures/busts, unique pins, coins, etc.). Using this way, you can get a decent gauge on if the merchandise will actually sell. If the funds are not raised, no harm. If they are, not only do the proud supporters finally get something tangible, but it will actually be a collectible item.
Why we want merch? Simple, we as players (regardless of the game) usually like to show it off. A simple hat or shirt is a nice gift, especially for a younger audience. However, for the adults, just knowing we support a game we love to play isnt enough! We want to have a bust of a wizard instead of Shakespeare on our coffee tables!
How will this affect future merchandise oppurtunities? Ideally the first run is mostly unique items, something that is considered to be of collectible quality. This will help generate interest in merchandise via social network and house parties where the merch will hopefully be displayed proudly! If the first run goes exceptionally well, you could still use kickstarter as a medium to ensure Top SUPERCELL quality, while creating a limited supply thus making these items hold more of a value.
What at about the hats, shirts, socks, bloomers? Well these can still be done, but it's not exactly what the hardcore fans are hurting for.
Recap. For a quality piece, we dont expect it to be cheap. If its what SUPERCELL considers to be quality, then it is something us fans would consider worth the price and wait.
