I seem to remember reading somewhere this wasn't the case. ie upgrading heros are ignored for the purposes of matchmaking. I agree if they are included in the "score" when you can't use them, then it is wrong.
Personally I'd rather have mine and let the opponent have theirs. At least both sides can go at it full power.
Ah ok, I understand now. Some clans are quite sensitive to start/finish times. I'm UK based, but the vast majority of my clan are based in the US. It would seriously mess with our strat if the wars started when the US guys were asleep. It would be interesting to see the results of the proposal.
Might need a little tweak because of clans that finish a war, take 5 mins to "clean up" and then search again. Perhaps run it on 24.5 or 25hr cycles.
I'm in the camp that matchmaking isn't that bad, but that's probably because my clan has a reasonably common composition - 3 TH10, 10 or so TH9 with the rest TH8/7 (slightly more TH8 now). There are loads of clans for us to reasonably match with, but if you are a clan with lots of max bases the pool of clans to match with is lower, so more mismatches arise (similar to the causes of the champ cloud issue) maybe the solution is to flex the matching time based on the actual strength of the clan looking for matching, or even based on how "busy" matchmaking is at any particular time - which borrows a little from your idea.
