I wouldn't say more money than sense. All they've done is upgrade their Town Hall. It's not like they have carbon fibre cannons or level 3 x-bows in there.
When I first started I also thought that upgrading the TH first would be best - why wouldn't you?
There should really be a message to help new players when trying to do this quickly. Or at least a way back for them. They are pretty much buggered now from what I can tell.
When people have so much things, they sometimes don't think when using it. lol. Having too much of something can be a bad thing.
