I am currently boosting barracks right now and there is no pause button.

Pause is only present after a maintanence if your boost started before it.
If you started your boost after it there is no pause button. You can't pause it at your own will i think.

5 attacks with barch after the update, 1.3 mio gold, 1.27 mio elixier ... too bad this won't probably last too long.

You can't pause them at will, I think they only pause for maintenance breaks. This isn't so you can milk your boosts for as long as possible but to prevent loss from maintenance breaks.
