Small Fish in a Vast Ocean – CoC and Forum Usage STATS

Hello dear clashers and constant forum abusers!

Seems to me that lately there’s a new trend in creating limitless amount of threads with complains, bashing of mods&developers and all sorts of negativity. I wanted to throw in little bit of the latest statistics, to hopefully show that forum users are a very small fraction of the overall number of users and how the game could be rapidly changing even more in the near future.

This post isn’t about “let’s get happy” or “let’s give those mods&developers hell for…whatever”, rather a call to think creatively and provide constructive criticism. I may be preaching to the wrong choir here, but wanted to offer unbiased stats.

I hope this forum will continue to have its own unique niche and provide valuable information/suggestions to mods&developers and players, and not going to become something they/we will think of as a hateful and useless bashing that needs to be often moderated. So, let’s get to stats…

Supercell Community Forums Statistics (FYI this is for both games)
    Members - 122,669
    Active Members - 62,402
While this post - there are currently 1061 users online. 201 members and 860 guests. (notice number of guests)

Supercell Clash of Clans (only) App Usage Statistics

    Monthly Active Users
August 2012 (game went live) - 42.182 users
    January 2013 - 771,493 users
    February 2013 - 1,030,429 users
    March 2013 - 1,207,227 users
    April 2013 - 1,361,107 users

    Weekly Active Users
    August 2012 - 35,331 users
    January 2013 - 579,821 users
    February 2013 - 771,115 users
    March 2013 - 904,530 users
    April 2013 - 1,034,696 users

    Daily Active Users
    August 2012 - 26,757 users
    January 2013 - 446,722 users
    February 2013 - 593,788 users
    March 2013 - 695,079 users
    April 2013 - 789,405 users

As you could probably see, forum's daily active users aren't making it even 1% of the overall users. With that said, we have mods constantly monitoring monitoring and I think it's a good idea to slow down bashing horses and get to more constructive feedback about the things we do/do not like and things we do/do not want to change.

As always, this is just my 2c.

Agreed. Most of the posts I've seen indicate that supercell are greedy, have ruined the game, have went in the wrong direction blah blah blah... I've only been a member of these forums for a week. I enjoy the help I get from everyone though.

Its like that in every game. And think about it. If everyone knew about the strategies on the forum, who would we easily farm?

The forum population versus active players is actually quite a bit smaller than your stats. Those stats are JUST stats through the facebook app tracker (for folks who have linked their village to Facebook and didn't subsequently remove the app from their facebook page). It shows 789,000 daily users.
    http://www.appmtr.com/facebook/app/2...lash-of-clans/

But, the last news story shows 8.5 Million daily users between both games, with 4.5 Million daily players for Clash of Clans alone. http://www.forbes.com/sites/karstens...any-supercell/

Meaning depending how many of the 62,000 only play Hay Day, the forums have roughly 1% of the player base.

I found out that there is an official forum while i was 40 level. If there was a link which direct users to official forum in-game , there would be at least 2x members here.

Some interesting data, but leaves me confused as to the total number of players with accounts in CoC. What is the known figure? There are differing stats here between ruthless and steve.
how many people have CoC in the world?
Agreeing with you takes a sentence.
Disagreeing with you takes a conversation.
    I have time.

Anyone accustomed to MMO forums is acutely aware that the number of participating members is always insignificant in comparison to the overall number of players. There is nothing new there, however what it does provide developers is an overall cross section of the community. How they wish to interpret these statistics is up to them.

I'm not suprised at the increase in participation rates either, I myself never felt the need to participate on the forums until the last update and only then because I had a significant financial interest in the game.

As for "hateful & useless bashing" a direct line can be drawn between people's increased emotional responses and poor communication. I know I have seen this time & time again when developers don't feel the need to communicate their intentions to the community, and some of you would say its their game why should they. Because nothing deflates a situation faster than communication, had developers come out within the 1st week of the last update and addressed concerns over loss of levels in chat as well as league bonuses even if nothing was done for 3 months but concerns and issues addressed clearly and concisely emotions wouldn't be as high and the forums would begin its healing (as Daddy puts it) process faster. Proof of this can be shown with the confusion over player levels, 2 replies by 2 moderators with conflicting responses resulted in the birth of additional threads and unflattering hateful posts. As for the greedy comments it is easy to see where they are coming from.

yes players need to take their emotion out of their posts & trolls need to be dealt with swiftly to prevent inflaming emotions, but SC needs to learn to communicate better with it's players through the forums.

Here's my opinion on the somewhat large number of complainers here...

If you like a game, then you play the game untill you grow bored of it, and leave.

If you play a game, and stuff bothers you about it, but you still like the overall idea of the game, you go looking for a way to vent your frustration, a place where this venting might just also reach the ears of the people able to do something about the cause of it.

So in a way, the complaints could be seen as veiled compliments, of people really liking the game that much, that instead of stopping to play it when they run into things they dont like, they take the trouble of trying to change it by complaining about it.

A lot of companies pay good money to find out what the complaints are their customers have over their services.

Here we come bearing our complaints for free.

If I was supercell I'd cherish those complaints. And I think they do; cause I've never seen them acting glum about it in any way.

    Just my two cents...
