Recently because of very low barch loot at th9... I have left barching. Right now I use an expensive army in high crystal.
20 Giants
8 wiz
24 barbs
48 archers
8 wbs
+ heros
+ 2 rages 2 heal (try to use few spells not all every raid if possible)
You are able to collect Gold and DE very easily but u have to do wise base selections to save Elixir.
(u can 3 star most bases in crystal with above army)

If you think giants are bad then just use a different troop combo or just don't use them at all.
Ginats and balloons get a massive boost when upgraded from 5 - 6 .......
DPS doesn't matter on giants. Health does.

IMO, as little as 8 giants or as much as 20 and it will greatly change your raid dynamics using Giants.
my goto TH8 army was
8WB 8Giant, and either 1)Barch, or a more loot getting 2) Archer/Gob combo.. or all Archer accompanying my Giants n WBs..
now a days I hunt in C2 on my TH9 acct.
10-12 Giants 8WB, 20 Gob up to 20 Barb and the rest Arch.. (Barbs optional, and usually a few Minions)
I crush the TH8 that have either 150k G/E, or 800 Dark..and beat on the premie TH9/10s..
or I loon when Im away from the game;24-28 Loons Rest Minions
for the Giant strategy; I try to deploy them ear splash towers and mortar for distraction, only use the WBs to bust through a path to storages, or splash towers..some of your Giants can pound at walls while the turrets fire on them, allowing you to get the gobs into place near the storages and the Archers clean up everything.
Req more giants for your CC, or Barbs (if your King is 5) and use a well timed Iron Fist after you deploy the CC..
ask your clanmates to post replays of giant raid success.
Note, bases with lvl7 or higher walls will require more WBs to increase storage hits (or TH if your Trophy hunting)probability... stick with a number of Giants like I suggest 12, then figure out what best backs them for how you raid.
my advise is practice for half or a whole season with the same combo. it will help you get to know the base types you can raid effectively.

OK thanks! I'm just gonna wait until they're lvl 6. I'm using balloonion, but its draining my DE. That's why I want giants.
10 giants (lvl 6)
10 wbs (lvl 5)
40 gobs (lvl 5)
rest archers (lvl 6)
usually, you can use archers and gobs only to get 50%. queen or king if needed to get 50% but usually not needed.
same composition with TH8. just lower level troops.
