    Happy New Year!

I haven't been on the forums in the last week or so. Time to get back to recruiting, though. We're at 33 members right now, and I'd love to get to a stable group of 40+ once again.

Life in the clan has been pretty good. Dom, one of our Elders and a TH10, upgraded his Golems to level 5, our first member to reach that milestone! He's working on maxing out his GoWiPe troops. I think that's pretty exciting. I'm a few days away from level 4 Hog Riders, myself, but I definitely need practice using them. I'm also upgrading my Hidden Teslas to level 6, and farming hard to get my walls to level 8 - only 42 to go! I'm starting to get anxious to upgrade to TH9, but I'll probably hold out a few more weeks to get all my structures maxed, and get as much research done as I can. But I want that Queen!

Today's war is 71-0, 7 hours in. The enemy has used zero attacks. It's a little strange, because they've won 31 wars, so I'm wondering if they're going to try to come back late, or just roll over.

If you're an awesome clan mate, and you're looking for an awesome new war clan in 2015, look no further: come to Dragons of Alki!

A few easy wars in a row

The war I wrote about in the last post ended up 81-11. I don't know what that clan was doing. We won the subsequent war convincingly, as well, 80-48, even though the enemy clan's leader joined our clan for an hour or so on preparation day. He said he wasn't spying... Guess we should check the enemy clan before admitting new members... Our upcoming opponent has 69 war wins, to our 66, and the town hall levels at the top are pretty comparable, but after a little bit of scouting, I think we've got them out-trooped, unless they're expert hog attackers. As always, we'll see what happens.

My level 4 Hog Riders will be complete this evening! I'm still a terrible hog attacker, largely because my timing with the heal spells isn't good, I think. But I'll probably trot them out and see what happens.

Followed by a couple of beat-downs

We're about to lose our second war in a row. This enemy clan has a lot of lower-level TH10 and TH9 bases, so I don't know if they're rushed, or gemmed, or what. But they have strong troops, and strong enough defenses that our TH8 can't realistically attack their TH9, nor our TH9 their TH10. I am our #16, a pretty advanced TH8, and I got attacked by their #10 with 12 level 4 dragons, two heroes, and 5 spells. I think that's a reliable recipe for 3*. But, we'll get back up again.

For the record, I am not one of the forum complainers who think that "war matchmaking is terrible!" I think it's quite good. We get some matchups where we're stronger on paper than our opponents, and some where our opponents are stronger than we are. We are not such brilliant attackers that we can win against stronger opponents who also have good participation, but we've been winning at least 70% of the time. It's been quite a while since I looked at our war log and we weren't 7-3 or better in the last 10, although when we get done losing this one, we'll be 6-4.

Something cool: Dom is trying to become our clan's first Champion! He's up to 3148 trophies, and it's definitely become an uphill battle. Even though trophies are not a focus for us as a clan, we're rooting for him to make it.

If you kick butt in war, and think we'd be a good fit, request in-game!

    70 war wins today

The enemy clan in our current war is not engaging. Their #1 attacked our #34 and #35, for 2 of their 4 used attacks and 6 of their 8 stars. Less than two hours remain. So I'm willing to assume that we're going to win, and it will be our 70th.

Personally, I'm getting ready to push the upgrade button to go to TH9. I'm waiting longer than my builders want me to: I'll have idle builders by the time the upgrade completes, even if I start it today. But, I'm trying to get a few more troop and spell upgrades done to better position myself, as well. So, maybe tomorrow, maybe the next day. All skull walls are done, last defensive upgrades are underway.

If you want to wage war constantly and competitively (NOT like what our current opponent is doing), come join the party with Dragons of Alki!

    I'm headed to TH9

I've completed all of my building and wall upgrades at TH8; my last 4 elixir collectors are upgrading to level 12 now. So, three days ago, I pushed the button to upgrade to TH9. I didn't finish every possible lab upgrade: I deferred goblin 5, healer 3, heal spell 5, lightning spell 5, and Valkyrie 2. I figured out that if I kept 4 builders busy continuously doing building/hero upgrades at TH9, and held 1 builder for wall upgrades, it would take 203 days to do all of the building and hero work available at TH9, but only 155 days to do all the research. So, I'll have time to finish up the TH8 lab work without having to leave builders idle.

It's exciting, but intimidating. I'm afraid I'm going to be kind of worthless in clan wars for a while. Although, if I can get my camps and spell factory upgraded, and maybe get my balloons to level 6, and get my Queen, I should be able to take care of the top enemy TH8 bases, if nothing else. So much to do, though!

If you're a well-developed TH7 to TH10 that wants constant war and has the appropriate troops and skills, come war and grow with us! I prefer to see requests from people who are active for more than just their two war attacks, as well. It worries me when, on a day like today, a week into the league season, I see requests from people whose profiles show 0-2 wins.

    Change of Leader

Our founding leader, Madducks, left the clan today. His Clash of Clans activity has been declining for some time, and so today he passed the reins to Zebb, one of the co-founders. I valued Madducks' leadership immensely in my early months with Dragons of Alki, and I will definitely miss him. But, it gives us a new opportunity to be more active as a leadership group, and foster a stronger and more active clan.

Sometimes, stars are hard to find

We lost yesterday, 53-57, to ClashLikeABoss. It was a hard-fought 25 v 25 war, with good participation on both sides. We only left a couple of stars unclaimed on TH8 and lower opponents; they left more than that. But we had an awful time trying to get stars on their TH10 and high TH9. Dr Bob Kelso, a TH9 and our #4, got 2* at the last against the enemy #1, but it was too little, too late. And then he took his leave of us for a while, with some lame excuse about "opening a new clinic overseas." We'll miss you, Dr. Bob; come back soon!

We're just below 30 members currently. I want to get the numbers up, but I'm only looking for TH8+. And if you're TH9, you have to have the troops to 2* an enemy TH9. If you want to kick some behind, and know how to do it, come war with us!

    This war is a nail-biter

Today's opponent is "zolotaya orda," which I googled: it means, "golden horde," in Russian. They have 84 wins. They have 5 TH10 to our 3, and 7 TH9 to our 5, in a 25 v 25 match. With 5 hours to go, we lead, 58-53. We've used 36 attacks, they've used 38. Both clans have several "dead" attacks remaining, but several live ones, as well. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

One of our TH8s just did a mass-dragon attack on the enemy #1 for a star that we probably weren't going to get otherwise, because he realized that all the air defenses were buried in the middle of a very spread base, so he deployed dragons around the perimeter and got 57%. Great job, Rusty!

I've personally been on a streak of massive war suckage. Being at max TH8, I try to attack the high enemy TH8s, or a weak-looking TH9. But, no matter how weak a TH9 looks, I haven't had much success. The extra defenses are just too much to handle.

If you're a war-loving TH8 to TH10 with well-upgraded war troops, camps, and barracks, come check us out!

    New website!

I've put together a website/blog using wordpress: http://dragonsofalki.wordpress.com. There's not a ton of content yet, but it does have our recent war results, including a bit of a writeup on yesterday's victory. Check it out!

Ahead in war, but lots of time left

We're ahead, 57-47, but have used three more attacks than our opponent (J.TIGER MALAYA3), and there are still more than 6 hours left. They have a lot of attacks left in their top 10, and a lot of our TH9/TH10 have no stars on them, yet, so the tide could definitely turn. But there are still 6 stars available against their TH8; if we could get all or most of those, that would probably do the trick.

If you're looking for a back-to-back war clan, come check us out!
