I've seen you hate on this idea for a while and never read your sig. Lol you're a TH8. There are two types of people who are against having heroes usable in war while upgrading: TH10's with maxed heroes, or TH8's and below who don't need heroes to three star. Please come back and discuss this once you're a TH9 with some experience trying to three star other TH9's with a hero down. It doesn't matter if implementing this change would agree with the current mechanics of the game. In fact, aren't the point of updates to change some portion of the mechanics of the game? Implementing this one would solely mean changing how heroes work in clan wars. I do agree that they won't flat out make them available, which is why Daz's idea linked in my sig needs to be read by SC and considered heavily.

/signed; I like the idea of being able to use upgrading heroes in war and upgrading them in the lab but y not go one step further and let you use them in attacks/defenses while your upgrading them.

There's absolutely NO reason why this shouldn't be added. I think many know me as an "idea basher", and that may be true, but I agree whole-heartedly with this. This is one of the most clear things that just needs to be added.. Even the big you tubers like Galadon made a special request to SC to add this.
I'd actually like to see someone give one reason why this shouldn't be implemented.

This would change the game too much. The majority of people requesting this change want them usable for clan wars because it wouldn't affect the rest of the game. Also, since it seems SC is against the idea mostly for monetary reasons, many forumers are trying to find a middle ground that SC can agree to that will allow upgrading heroes to be used in wars without costing SC their fortune. Making them completely available for all attacks, including regular raiding, while upgrading is not something that SC would ever do. They may (we can only hope) choose to make them available for wars some way or another.
zachhhbro, I've noticed the colonel's resistance to this issue too. I've thought the same thing after reading his sig. It's just not an issue until you hit TH9.
I've seen a few other people against this change suggest that we should just "manage our upgrades" or something similar to allow for war, but I don't find that to be a realistic option with 7 day upgrades. During TH8 there are 22.5 days of hero upgrade time split up into five small 2 to 5 day upgrades. At TH9 it's 157 days for the queen alone, 112 of that in 7 day upgrades. All in all, if I don't spend gems I can't war at full capacity for over 5 months. Not fun Supercell!

Seriously, this is the most glaringly obvious and easy improvement.
Will take the developers 2min of coding time and be a huge improvement to the game.
The only possible reason NOT to do this is to get people to waste gems to finish hero upgrades, but there are way too many levels of hero upgrades for any sane person to spend money that.
I mean, the only other solution would be to change the cost to gem a hero upgrade to something reasonable, like under 100 gems.
