A def turret/trap still exists in the war base at its level at the time of start of the war. So, too should a hero on both fronts. No one is asking to be able to use the upgrading hero for regular attacks. The new opt out feature helps with this issue but it's lame to basically be forced to opt out because your hand is tied behind you back without the huge offensive boost of a hero. I have been trying to cram my attacks into the beginning of wars just to avoid having to opt out of the following war due to an upgrading AQ. I could have started the upgrade as soon as I had enough DE but instead I got raided waiting to use my second attack and had to go farm some more before starting the upgrade. It was just kind of a silly ordeal that shouldn't have been the case.

I totally agree with this. Make barbarian king and archer queen when they on upgrading but still can be used in war attack.
