New Newspaper - unwanted customers

I am keeping a list of the names of those buying my unadvertised goods. I have just lost two planks meant for neighbours. These people are unknowns.

How are you getting names? My stuff is taken by an anonymous "thing." When my friends do manage to get a few things I see their farm name and avatar and I give a little cheer.

Missti, my son is 13 going on 23 and is already writing programs at school and has probably written a ♥♥♥♥ program for other games. He knows waaaaay more than I do about computers.

If in fact it gets advertised without our wish, it means there should be a lot more rare stuff in the newspaper. I have not noticed an abundance of rare products and materials in DD. ACtually since the new paper was introduced, I haven't been able to buy anything valuable It seems to be sold before I even manage to open the ad (before I was always getting lucky with expansion stuff)

It's definitely wonky. Some people say that they're getting great deals, I haven't noticed that at all, on contrary like you said it seems half empty most of the time. It's like the left-over stuff from players who have an add still active for something that nobody bought, a second round for the adds - and they're all lumped together in the same paper.

I am getting their picture and name. Not every time it is sometimes the gingerbread man. I have had 6 named, unknown to me, buy my unadvertised things today.

I described this problem to my son who is a gamer but doesn't play HD. He said that it could be the game developers are actually the ones who are acting as the gingerbread man and they are doing this to create an artificial demand for rare items and therefore spend money to purchase them...
Of course it could also be that there is something wrong with the code after they changed the newspaper but they just won't admit it.

Your son sounds smart! My impression is that this is not a conspiracy theory, just a bug. This would take a lot of code to build.

If they wanted to make expansion items more valuable, the easier route would be to just lower the percentage of times we find them. For example, if I find a plank 2% of the time I clear a crop, lowering that to 1% would mean half the number of planks are out there.

2. When those raiders raid your shop and have helped your tree (when you did not advertise), were you able to see their name/avatar in the last helped bar? If so, were their name/avatar in the shop as well, OR did they look like gingerbread man in the shop but you could see their name in last helped tab?

Sadly, I have never seen a name or avatar listed in my shop unless it is a GC friend.

When a raider helps a tree, I see their store name on the tree and I see their store name in the Last Helpers tab. I never see an avatar.

And, I don't think I'd strike it rich at SC; companies that ignore their customers' pleas to make a quick buck (gem confirmation, anyone?) don't usually pay their employees well, either! Anyway, it isn't the programmers deciding to not put in a gem confirmation, it's management telling them not to. I don't want to be paid leave out an industry standard feature that is making a lot of people unhappy and profits from user error.

I just logged on to the game this morning and did a few jobs, including harvesting a few apple trees. About 20 mins later when I checked back, someone, not one of my neighbours or followers, had revived my trees. How is it possible? I had nothing for sale in my shop at the time, or for at least 8 hours. How could this person even get on to my farm?

I'll give SC a little more time to respond to this thread or actually fix the problem, because now even my land-expansion items at full price with advertising unclicked are getting nicked by unknowns. I'm sick of it.
