The compromise does harm something. It is a step backwards. Remove it from chat now...remove it entirely tomorrow.

All of this is detracting from actual issues that have a powerful effect on gameplay.
No, this has nothing to do with base evaluation, and with regards to matchmaking, I absolutely agree. I am certainly not advocating using level for anything other than a sort of status indicator.

My point is that either the levels or the league badges have no purpose of being in chat other than to serve as status indicators. While trophy counts do serve a practical purpose in mathcmaking, they serve no more of a practical purpose by being displayed in chat than levels. The question is which of those is a better status indicator. Right now, it is clearly levels. In the future, it may very well be league badges, but it also might not be. The point is that there is no reason to substiute one bad metric for another when most people preferred the status quo.

While introducing levels originally may have been a bad idea, it is something that they can't back off of this easily.

2k or even 3k will not get you a champion badge.

Status indicator? Really? You can do better than that Zach. Please tell me you can.

If this has nothing to do with base evaluation or match making, how can it possibly be used as a status indicator?

You agree that it is completely useless for anything that "status" in this game stands for. At least when you look in chat and see someone with a master and above badge, you can be assured they have accomplished something as far as CoC is concerned.

Apologies, I mistyped that in my last post. It does serve as a rough indicator of base strength. In most cases it does a much better job of this than do trophy counts/league badges.

I disagree. Level is meaningless in all circumstances. It tells you little about how good the player is or how good their base is.

I still maintain that you can be reasonably assured that someone with a master or champion badge is a good player.

Is this thread amusing? I'm too lazy to read the whole thing.

Of course you can in the master/champion leagues, but that isn't where the vast majority of players are. The lower, more populated, leagues are the ones which level represents better.
