Let's be perfectly clear on one thing: the intended design of the game is to make money.
It can't be too hard or too easy to get and keep loot. If its too hard, people will get frustrated and leave. If its too easy, there's no motivation to buy gems. They need to balance it in a sweet spot where its easy enough where you are having fun, but difficult enough where you feel a stong desire to gem from time to time.
Its difficult enough as a farmer to get a shield since (anecdotally) we are the only ones with loot these days. We already risk our resources just by logging off. They're out there already... we just pray we get sniped instead of raided.
Thanks TH snipers. a win win situation for both of us. you gain trophies we gain shields!![]()

Exactly, there have been a couple weekends where I had no reception and couldn't collect on my pumps. Loot was in the 400-600 range with 4k de and my TH was sniped without touching any of my pumps or collectors (pumps were easy to get outside my walls). Of course I was thankful but it also gets me thinking on how much loot is out there because a guy snipes someone with pumps that are full.
There are multiple reasons why players leave their townhall outside and if you are a townhall sniper it is useful to have an idea of what the motivation is for players doing this!
First up is the obvious farmer who has full storages and is praying a trophy pushing player will find his base and take the easy one star and quit the attack giving him a shield and protected resources. Plenty of these players will not bother revenging you back unless you go on to try and attack their storages although i admit this is a generalisation and some will.
Next up is the townhall trapper who leaves what looks to be an unguarded townhall available to be sniped only they have placed all their traps around the townhall as well hidden teslas! There appear to be 3 main motivators for doing this these are
- To gain trophies from weaker more naive players who attack the base but do not have the troops needed to actually destroy the town hall
- To make the attacking player expend more troops destroying the townhall than they would have anticipated leaving fewer troops to attack for resources after the townhall is gone
- For the sheer pleasure of watching replays of someone coming unstuck attacking what they thought would be an easy win.
I have also come across quite a few players now in crystal and master lges who leave townhall outside to encourage the weaker snipers to attack them for 1 star putting them on their revenge list to attack for 3 stars later. This is a favoured tactic of a lot of the townhall 8 and 9 players in my clan from a couple of weeks before we push! They will aim to start the push with a long list of snipers and weaker players who have sniped them who they can attack and 3 star for 40-59 trophies.
As you go higher up the leagues into high master 1 and champions lge up to about 3800-3900 trophies leaving your townhall outside is actually one of the best forms of defence to preserve trophies! The way this works is due to the mechanics of matchmaking in the higher leagues. When a player logs off in these leagues they go into matchmaking and are offered up to players searching for bases almost straightaway, it appears that they are offered preferentially to players with higher trophies as they have the lowest opportunity of finding bases within their range to attack, most of these offers will be +1 for the attacker and will probably be skipped, they will then get offered to players lower down for higher trophies. Leaving your townhall outside makes you a much more attractive option for high trophy players as it is 0 risk and they can get +1 trophy for just dropping their archer queen and can attack again straightaway. This is not fool proof however and there is always the possibility of a lower trophy player finding you for a bigger loss; however i have used this in champs lge for a couple of months now between 3400 - 3800 and average about -2 trophies per defence compared to -10 for townhall protected.
Lol OP your post comes across kinda sarcastic but hey you are welcome![]()
i snipe every th in sight and rarely touch any of the usually fat loot. I think of it as a friendly service
And yeah i also have my th out and typically get sniped despite showing fat loot available. I appreciate that.
Trapped th's ? Im pretty good at spotting wether its trapped or not but on the odd occasion i fall for it... I still take the th and then usually head for the de with the rest of my army. I level them if i can...im a th10 so a fair few of them get bulldozed lol.
As someone else mentioned on here, you're essentially punished for having a TH inside of a strong base. Someone comes along and fails at 30-39% only after setting off all your traps, killing your clan castle, putting your heroes to sleep, and taking a bit of loot. Then ten minutes later someone comes along and wipes you clean. That happened once and that was the end of that
Plus not to mention the TH being an odd size larger it completely ruins most base designs. It's way easier to have a strong base without a TH in the core.
You guys want to trophy push? Cool, don't punish farmers just because you're bitter. Cheap shields don't have an impact on the loot situation, they've been around since the beginning. The biggest injection of loot is from how many inactive supercell decides to put in the line
