Thank you for a well thought out post. I currently use a healer, but I can see that it is a temporary thing, and once I get a bit higher in trophies it will stop being useful as people start to protect their air defense I think if the league bonuses are increased which I feel is likely then the cost of at least the regular elixir tier 2 troops will sustainable, but the build times per housing unit for balloons and wizards is just absurd. Common sense says that it should be between goblins and dragons, not higher than dragons and Pekkas.

I haven't used any DE troops yet, so I can't speak for those, but I have never heard of anyone regularly using hog riders or Valkyries for anything, so it would seem that something needs to be done there as well. I don't think the idea of bringing in new troop types is necessarily a good one, there is no guarantee that Supercell would get the balance right with them either, so I would prefer to see a re-balancing of the existing troops.

Well a few facts that have always been on my mind, perfectly support the OP.

A pekka, has a 45 minute build time, and takes up 25 housing space
A balloon, has a 10 minute build time, and is 5 housing space
A wizard, has a 10 minute build time, and is 4 housing spaces

So, the time to fill 100 housing space with:

    Pekkas- 180 min
    Balloons- 200 min
    Wizards- 250 min

So what bothers me is that the pekka, the last troops you unlock, the "premier troop" is quicker to build (in terms of housing unit per minute) than balloons and wizards, which are second tier troops

Nice, you have DE barracks and pumps maxed allready? Because that's what I have left (barracks 3, pumps 4 atm with 5 million elixir in my coffers) and I consider myself needing elixir

And the thing is, yeah, I have enough elixir. But if I started using wizards instead of archers every battle I would have a lot less.

Yep, I'm in a troop rut as well. I even have the queueing of my troops down to a rhythm I could do with my eyes closed.

I would love to use a wizard / healer army for fun but the time investment sucks. I got builders to feed!

And I will probably gem a build time here and here in the process. I would be surprised if SC actually *wants* to get rid of me, why would they?

No, it's much more clever to keep me as a customer. And SC is a fairly clever company.

Of course they would like to see me go all in. Become a whale, or maybe a dolphin at least... But that will never ever happen. Not in a million years. Not if CoC was the last computer game on earth. And I think most players at my level are like me. Gemming? Sure, once in a while, value equivalent of a MMPORG's monthly fee or so, but not more.

I know whales make up for a very big chunk of the profit for SC. Much more than one would think at first glance. But every penny counts, as my grandfather used to say. And players like me chip in more than a penny.

I don't think they will lower tier 3 either, as I said in my first post. And I totally understand the need for a high-end tier.

But tier 2, DE troops 1-3, and new troops can be used to create variety and options. I truly think it would be beneficial for the game, SC's profit and the players in the long run.
Don't confuse "lack of incentive" for wanting to get rid of you. I don't think they want to get rid of you, however it is in their best interest to focus more on the other two groups. That's why we see so many protections for the little guys and new buildings for the big guys.

Balloons and Wizards should both have a 5 minute training time. Healer training time should be 10 mins and the healing range should be increased by 1 tile due to the recent Anti Air buffs meant to hurt the mass dragon strategy. The recent AA buff also really hurt balloons, minions and healers all of which were already rarely used.

Great thread and interesting topic! No idea about what supercell will do in the future about training times and troop costs? Truth be told, I use very few of the troop options and have an inexpensive/fast-training army(archer-goblin-minion) and the more expensive( dragon-minion-archer). Other than a wall breaker every so often, I don't deviate. I am training barbs to 5 and will play with them a bit when ready. I am a farming th 8 who likes to stay around 1200 trophies after update. I spend just a few gems to finish projects if I have loot to spend. I have quite a few things left to max from walls to defenses -- other than one DE barracks and troop upgrades I DON'T use, I have no use for elixir other than troop training.
I would imagine at some point I am going to try some wacky stuff with army building-- a few of everything, all of one thing, all DE troop attack, etc.... I would suspect I will stay at th 8 until I have maxed most everything. I love attacking almost as much as being attacked. Like many of us, I look forward to who took there best shot at my base while I was fast asleep!

Do we need more, better, or revamped troops??? Maybe each!!! Happy hunting everyone.

    I like this post..

Farming troops to cater for none-gemming farmers..

Trophy hunting troops to cater for gemming trophy hunters/whales..

    Middle ground ?
Fun troops- for you to play and have fun with different strategy, where you will frown and go back to your farming or trophy hunting troops.

Agree 100% with OP. Been using the same stuff more or less since I started playing. My biggest issue with using the troops mentioned such as balloons and wizzies and valkyries are the training time. My suggestion to SC is to :-

    1. lower the training times of these troops.
    2. to balance it out, make them super expensive elixir-wise. There is always excess of elixir...so many players will be more than happy to burn their elixir (suffer a big net loss in a raid) to get the much needed gold. After awhile, they will have to stop to catch up on their elixir and they will switch to other troops.

Caveat : this sounds logical to me at my level, but I'm not sure of the impact it would have on the top players, who are SC's most important customers.
