In the lab, it has the tiles you can't upgrade greyed out with the message that you need to upgrade your town hall to upgrade this troop. I think something similar would be helpful when you click on a building so that you can see if you have maxed it out without having to click on upgrade.

i think they have it already
You just have to make one extra click to get that information.. When you click "Upgrade" there is a message in read which tells you that you need to upgrade your townhall before in order to upgrade this building.
