Hiya all ! I want to adress this mainly to supercell but i will need your opinion guys as well.
SO I WAS THINKIN ... Clash of clans is a very popular game and alot of players buy gems so why dont we ask for some promotions like every now and then 50 % off or 30% off whatever i relised that hay day have it so why clash of clans cant... Please guys let me know if you agree and lets make this happen...

Gem purchases have been on a steady trend giving SuperCell no reason for providing discounts. When they do come, it is most likely that their revenue will be trending downward.

You answered your own question. It's a popular game and people are buying gems.

Business don't discount items that are hot sellers, they discount when sales become stagnant or they need to move inventory. Since only one of the above applies to Supercell, until their sales become stagnant and in need of a boost, a sale on gems is very unlikely.

Hay day is FAR from Clash of Clans.

Hay Days in game population is a fraction of what Clash of Clans is, making gem promotions more feasible there.

I am happy to have a game where the developers do not advertise the purchase of gems constantly, it would upset me if they sank to those tactics to drum up more sales.

I strongly belive one of the reasons this game has done so well is they have stood by thier no need for gems to play this game policy. Their is absolutely nothing in the game you cant get without needing to purchase gems, you cant say that for 99% of the other games out their.

If they started offering sales, and using other gambling type tactics is when you know this game is about to die.

Hehe, in the 'ideas' sub forum, and in the forums two'ish year history, this has been mentioned countless times and SC still hasn't listened.

There probably won't be a gem promotion unless its a really special event or CoC starts to die in popularity which I predict won't be for a long time.

Have you ever run a business or balanced promotional pricing against a company's P&L?

I can tell you from my experience in this area in my professional life, it's not that simple.

While a 50% sale may get a FEW people up who do not spend much money for gems to wake up, those that spend gems regularly at full price are now paying half of what they would have paid.

So now take a simple equation of how many NEW buyers would a 50% discount create and compare it to how much you will lose from regular buyers who are now paying 50% of what they would have had the sale never happened.

.... will making $2.50 from a guy who never bought gems but went ahead and bought it because it was 50% off make them money when the guy who buys $200 a month is able to buy the same amount of gems he normally buys for $100?

It's simple, earned $2.50 from one new buyer, lost $100 from the regular buyer. You would have to create 40 new buyers for every ONE regular buyer to break even. This is a simplistic way of analyzing it, as there's no way for me to know whether new buyers would settle for the simple 500 gem pack or not, but chances are, if they never bought gems before, they're not going to jump immediately to the 14,000 package on their first purchase. Especially if they were too cheap or under motivated to buy gems prior.

Then you have to consider, if you make this a regular occurrence... as you stated "every now and then" you then will have regular buyers who are fine with buying at full price hoarding and waiting. They may still spend their $200 but now they won't spend that much for twice as long, and if they can expect a new sale, they may hoard gems and start buying during discount cycles. How much more revenue is lost?

This is why most Companies would not risk these guys of discounts just for the heck of it. You risk breaking a cycle of purchasing for no gain. Their method is making them MILLIONS a day, why mess with something that isn't broken?

The harm of trying? The harm is significant reduction of revenue.

Have fun being the guy in the conference room justifying why you authorized a sale to the CFO/CEO and Shareholders as the projector screen shows the revenue dollar in a downward direction...
