    Why Matchmaking is flawed.

I am level 13, level 3 Townhall and have a max army of 70 Level 1 barbarians. I have managed to get 500 trophies in my first week.

Today I am matched vs a level 37 opponent who had red walls wizard towers and all sorts of stuff. How is this even possible?

In my first 5 or so days I was matched with people my level and I won on most occasions, this is fun and I am enjoying getting trophies. Since the update out of 10 opponents nearly each one is 10 even 20 levels higher with gold walls etc. I am now struggling to even find a match.

I quickly check and discover the matchmaker works off trophies. I then think how on earth does a lvl37 who has amassed probably 100x as many resources etc as me only have 500 trophies. I then get attacked by people only sending like 2 troops. I think why would they do that. Then it dawns on me, "They lose on purpose" to lower their trophies so they get matched with new players.

So I change my strategy to losing on purpose and only targeting resources. Now I can lose matches whilst getting the resources I need and not get attacked by the good players because of my low number of trophies.

Since the trophies hold no real benefits for me I see no point in striving to get more and get matched against goliaths I have no chance of beating.

I think in the next week or so you will find everyone losing on purpose and low lvl players are going to consistently get matched against players 20+ levels higher which is simply ♥♥♥♥♥♥ed.

    How to fix it.
IMO your village should be given a rating which determines the matchmaker. For example it would go something like
Hall size lvl 1 = 1 point up to say level 10 = 100 points
    Walls - 50 wood = 10, 100 gold = 100 points
Etc etc with the cannons, mortars

Using this system I would have a score of say 50 whereas the level 37 would have a score of like 500 and would never be matched against me.

Or as another poster menioned make the trophies have some sort of value. Or an even easier option put in a simple rule of +-5 levels so I will only battle up to 5 levels higher or similar. Based solely off trophies seems far too simplistic and ignores the obvious differences in the levels of the players.

    Regards, new player.

We're monitoring the situation of where the player's are dropping their trophy points on purpose to get easier matches. So far it has not yet been an issue from the statistics perspective. And even if it would become an issue, we would most likely try to find a solution to the reason why they are dropping their trophies and fix that. The changes in the last update should already have some effect on this, as now more loot should be available even in the higher ranks.

Making the matchmaking be based on the level of buildings in your village would lead to a situation where it might not make sense to upgrade your village further. For example, one might be tempted to not to upgrade their town hall as they would then find tougher opponents. We want to keep it so that upgrading buildings will only have positive impact on the player's gameplay experience.

I appreciate your feedback, can you explain how a lvl13 such as myself is matched to a lvl37 with red walls etc. How can this be deemed a match? You mention players not wanting to upgrade using the system I suggested, at the moment I don't want to win in fear of being matched vs goliaths. Must be a happy medium somewhere so people get matched to people closer to their ability to win.

I'm level 21 and was matched with a level 55!!!! Hello??? Where is the fun in this??? The only reason I won is because they were probably dumping trophies on me and farming my town for gold and elixir. I support the games I like by making in game purchases. If this keeps up, I won't be Purchasing any more in game currency.

My suggestion would be to limit town battles to 5 levels up or 5 levels down. That will keep me in this game. Otherwise, this game will end up like several others, in my discard pile.

What I think is that some of these people are trying to do is to Twink their town, like a PVP toon in a MMO.

Edit: I have reviewed my battle log, and I have been attacked multiple times by players at least 10 - 25 levels higher than myself. I have won the majority of those battles. Because they abandoned the battle after getting the gold & elixir. Right now I feel like a milk cow, high levels raid me when they need supplies. I don't mind a fair fight, but a 25 level difference is not fair.

I am holding off on further in game purchases until I feel that this is going to be addressed.

After you click "Find a Match", if you don't like the match-up, there's a button to the right that says "Next". Click that to find another opponent.

The matchmaking is better than before, the only problem is this: "there is no village available to attack" (It is in french, may be that not the correct transation but you get the point).

What does it means, not enought people playing ? Too many shield ?

    Idea!

Make it so there is a bigger penalty then just losing cups if you lose multiple times in a row (2) Make it so that if you lose a match you lose some more troops (And the one archer you deloyed) So because you lost they get dissapointed and run off into the forest from low moral. Mabye 2 troops per town hall level, also you lose the lowest ranking troops. And if you can only lose a giant, wizard, balloon , you lose 0.5 per town hall, rounded up of them , if you lose a healer , dragon , pekka, you lose 1 of them.

Did you really just bump a 10 month old thread?

This is a terrible idea IMHO.

I love that Rauta said that he doesn't want people to be tempted not to upgrade their townhall. Rofl
