I'm pleased we seem to agree on the initial reaction.

The level of hyperbole which folks use to express their reaction seems to be varying but the trend seems clear. The positive message for SC should be that the game they have created has this many people who are this invested in it's continued development. Whether of not this particular troop will really add a new dimension is less important than that it clearly matters to a lot of people.

Haha, well said! I started this thread because I felt it to be unhealthy for the community to have people react to updates in this way and wanted to see how many others held a similar view to me. I definitely do agree that in the long run all this hoo-har about updates and sneak peeks is a good sign for Supercell, regardless of how cemented the views of a minority may be.
