When I read this request of feature. I don't understand why we need to complicate the case.
In a clan, make one more dropdown in clan setup screen to enable leader to confirm the number of fighters in the coming war. Whoever able to participate the war, then apply ( eg. click a "I fight" button ) for a seat. That's it. When the seats are full, leader can decide to make more seats or just start the war.
The above doesn't need to kick member, no push and leader doesn't need to count members who can join the war or set up any rule for joined-but-no-show.
I don't understand why Supercell still not implement the above solution.
Now i get it now thanks super steve

I'm level 100 in game, and I had to drop from Master league to silver 3 to avoid a war due to internet issues. I was lucky to have solid enough internet to drop, and opt-out button would have been faster. Plus, now that I want in war again, I have to push trophies again, and I want to be in Master league still. The opt-out would've saved me so much time in dropping and re-climbing
The leader can kick who he wants when he wants at the moment, that makes the concern about bullying rather nonsense...
There are also many suggestions on how to make it so that players can choose themselves if they want to join, also removing that power from the clan leader.
I have been reading a lot of forum posts and this is the only point that makes sense:
The only issue i can find is that a lot of people gem their heroes when they're upgrading thus making SuperCell rich. and you want to get richer so you're not really going to support this opting system...
I fully support the opt-in, opt-out option for clanwars!

We have to go through this complicated kick/reinvite dance every war from people that don't want to war because they're focusing on upgrading something or just don't have time, and people that are just not ready for war. As long as the rather arbitrary trophy count remains an element of war inclusion, wars can only occur in increments of 5 and accounts are manned by people instead of robots, shuffling around war participants will be necessary in order to war. Would you rather the rushed th10 get included and then blamed for war losses because they helped draw harder opponents? I'd rather sit them, let them continue working on their bases/tactics and avoid the resentment guarunteed to be directed at them from the rank and file. Forcing us to kick/reinvite them every war causes less clan cohesion, not more. It's embarassing for them and I personally hate doing it as a co lead. But NOT doing it would mean lost wars, unhappy members. Just allow us to choose who goes to war. If a clan leader abuses that power his/her members will get out of there pretty quickly. If the rushed th10 really WANTS to war there are plenty of more casual clans that would welcome him/her, but if he/she wants to stay and doesn't mind sitting don't make us kick and reinvite every war.
The same dynamic that influences the forming of clans in the first place also informs who we choose to go to war with. It's unreasonable to have different expectations for one versus the other or worse, limit our ability to freely coordinate one forcing us to circumvent at the expense of the other.

I feel like Supercell is not treating us well on this issue and offering excuses like this one that don't seem to ring true. What hurts us hurts them, unless it's really all about forcing players to gem hero upgrades or do the kick/leave rejoin dance -- I hadn't thought of that. I am not usually so cynical, but this socially destructive aspect of the game has gone on for almost a year now and I am still grasping for understanding.
I just had another longtime clash friend of 2 years banished from his clan because he wasn't good enough in wars. Great guy who everyone loves, but it sounds like he doesn't do enough attack damage. So sad! I feel like this isn't a social game, but the army. Not good for friends and families. Choose between low morale from war losses, or low morale from kicking your girlfriend / internet friend / kid brother, mom, dad, work friend to the curb. Lose-lose.

I came to the forum just to make a suggestion very similar to the one in this thread. I am on board with the opt out button, but i would take it a step further and add another layer where the leader is able to exclude players from war himself.
The way that would work would be, if a player opts out of war, he will not participate in war no matter what. But if a player opts in, the leader can still mark the player as ineligible for war. So it would be two layers of selection.
Reason i want this feature is because there are players in my clan that are VERY casual. and sometimes they are not around to opt out themselves so the leader has to do it for them.
This NEEDS to happen. Sad thing is, super cell has given reasons to not do this, but i feel like none of the reasons they gave are actually valid.

Some sort of feature where you can select/deselect players for war would be good. But in the meantime I have kicked players (sending invites to them for when they are back online) who have been inactive to the point of it impacting war results i.e. a high level player needed to get stars from base(s) that are too high for other players to get a star from.
If your clan are 3 star attackers you only need half the members to use both their attacks to come out with a result, so you could manage depending on the overall circumstances
