    Umm...

I love your new profile pic Steve...but yes opt in and opt out is a good idea, but it should be decided by not one coleader, but assigned by the leader, approved by the coleaders, even if the leader demotes and kicks, it still has to be approved by that person. By it I mean the list of people in war. However, a played can also opt himself out of a war, but cannot opt him/herself in.

Wow, this is one of the threads I saw on this some time ago. Did not realize how much it had grown. And how many had weighed in on what SuperSteve wrote that day. His email has been one of the most misused things in the forum. It really settles nothing at all but its been reposted all over the place by guys using different parts of it to support their argument. The detractors label it an official rule out and love to throw it in peoples faces in that contect. Meanwhile the ones in favor point out how he says it might get considered some day as meaning that it will. it actually means neither. His statements in that email sometimes hint one way, sometimes another, but ultimately cancel each other out into a non statement.

What I see as more meaningful is the sheer number of people that have gone into such detail as to what they don't just want it, but need it. They spoke of fractured clans, lost members. All very real things.

Very true. I thought for a moment you were going to turn around and rant about how people shouldn't be obsessing over this.

From my experience in CoC, I'm going to added to the list (of two) at the end of the post.

"They spoke of fractured clans, lost members", lost friends, stress that may have led to GPA loss (hence less chance for college and all that nonsense), lots of drama, rebellions within clans, inter-clan drama/rivalry and family problems of all sorts including, but not limited to, parent/child and siblings.

We don't want it. We need it.
Logic is cold ............... Embrace it.

    Like the Select/unselect buttons

I like the select/unselect button for clan war member participation.
It's probably the easiest way for the leader to manage the war without having members either ditch a tonne of trophies or be kicked.
We had 45-50 members before we started warring regularly & now can hardly keep 30 in the clan. It can completely destroy the clan dynamic & social aspect of the game, which in my opinion is the most important part.
It takes a long time & hard work to build up and maintain the balance to have a solid clan & only a few wars of kicking people or having players who are in it who don't necessarily want to be, to lay ruin to a clan.
In the end, if a player is continually not selected for war for one reason or another, they still have the choice to leave & find a clan that suits them best.
Just my opinion here, but I needed to vent!

Yes the fractured clans is a huge problem for those clans whos sole purpose is NOT war. In my large clan of almost 50 War was causing a TON of drama and problems since people could not opt out. The messy kick/reinvite was a huge pain and made things very chaotic as well as upsetting to many. It was simply not worth it. Like many other clans, we simply have opted out of war until this feature is implemented.

Players should have a choice if they want to be in War period. Just like they have a choice when to raid, to play the single player missions, how to design their base, which clans to join etc.

In the last update they gave us the option to tell members how often we go to war. But without Opt In/Out there is no middle road... you are either a war clan or you are not. Our focus as a clan is on personality and players fitting with us, not war. We are family, real life friends, and new online friends making up our clan. I should not have to tell my sister to go find another clan that does not war nor should fathers and sons be forced to all go into different clans if one wants to war and the other does not. The current system is flat out unacceptable and MUST change!

And its soooo simple to do.
Player or leader goes to roster screen and clicks on the name. Opt them in and out there. Grey out the war icon for out, color for in. Once war search starts roster is set in stone.

Like I said my clan is done with war until they fix it. If we never get to war again that will be a shame but I refuse to allow this feature to cause any more division in my clan or run away any more players.
Leader of clan Ironclads. We are always looking for new members. We value camaraderie, teamwork, and maturity. We war once a week thanks to the Opt In/Out feature that gives players choice! Chat is kept clean and respectful. Come by and say hi!

Yeap, for non war focused clans thats exactly what it does. It is devistating to those clans. We have lost very good people because of war, many of whom quit the game all together...

    You said it so beautifully...

Accoridng to a poll (multi-choice) I started in general (with 141 voters so far), 60.2% consider Clans and Clanmates to be a strong motivator to play Clash of clan. 62.4% consider Clashing (the game in general) to be a motivator. This means that both the social and the gaming aspects of this game are equally important (with the game slightly more).

I know many past improvements have improved the social aspect, I think the reason Opt in/out is being delayed is because it would affect gameplay negatively. While many many improvements to the game have been implemented, I think it's time Supercell implements something that would affect gameplay negatively (as per reasons SuperSteve mentioned in the post earlier this thread) but would greatly help the social aspect as it is equally important. Some-Of-The-Clan Wars might not seem ideal, but I think Clash of Ruinous Divided Clans is worse.

I am waiting and waiting, agreeing and agreeing on newcomers suggesting this and commenting and commenting on how we should just be patient, but I'm not a very patient person... I hope that the next update implements this simple feature.

    opt out

I think opt out would be good because the lower people in the clan are always left out when there's people who just won't do their attacks! I think the leader (yes I am one) shouldn't have any day in who gets next up option or anything like that. I think it should be personal for each player, if they have real life things taking priority then they should be able to opt out without letting their clan down with unused attacks!
