Make sure your barn isn't full when harvesting.
You don't get tools everytime you attend to your animals or harvest. I usually get tools around about every 2nd time attending to my animals (3 yards with each) and harvesting yields a tool every 60 odd plots so if you have 59 fields you will got your tools every second complete harvest (not sure on exact figures).Originally Posted by AEVande

Feed your animals, I always get at least 3 items when I collect xp from them
