Seems a bit unnecessary to me, since I can just find out by pressing the upgrade button. May be ruled out also

I would agree, but expand the idea to be a button that shows all available updates, then sort them by cost, low to high. It would be nice to have a gold, elixer, and dark elixer tab.
we don't need a button...just maybe "green light" will not bother, only on buildings/defenses
