To combat these air-raids, you want to tuck your AD's in, which will hinder your ground defenses. Rarely anyone farms with Dragons, so it's not worth sacrifice vital center placement positions for them. You win some, you lose some, and losing to some infrequent air-raids is better than the common ground farming armies.
Even now at TH9, with 3/4 AD's, I'm still getting steamrolled by Mass Dragons, once in awhile. It's ok though, because I make sure they lose more than they gain (currently farming for DE) with a much less expensive army.

Thanks for the detailed feedback. Yes, I really encourage players, who chose to use this design, to adapt accordingly to the attacks against their base. Personal playstyle, current defenses/upgrades, etc. can all affect the effectiveness of the design.
