I never noticed my donations go up when donating in clan wars before. Was this only for the Friend in Need achievement or did it affect the clan donation count too?

Will never be implemented. Donations used to count in clan wars, however, because of discarding, people were donating and then discarding to achieve extremely high donation counts. If you added a discard to regular cc's, then they would have to remove the donation count there as well, which is not possible.

Yes, donating in war cc does not affect any donation statistic anywhere.
