I formed my camp around my dark elixer (rather than TH). It is the last to go and if they get it, its usually a 90-100% attack. Many of my attacks only get 100-300 (of the 1,500-2,000 they can pillage). Those that get 40% and 11 hour recharge cycle hit either a lot of coin or a lot of purple elixer but rarely all three. That allows me to build and upgrade once a week.
