I prefer you cancel the upgrade. Your walls are very underdeveloped and your teslas and Archer towers need some work.
As someone who recently made the move to TH9 after maxing out at TH8, I think you're making a mistake. You've said you "don't want to hear" that, so I won't belabor the point, but it's true. You will have a ton of work to do at TH9, and your base will look like a mess for a long time with so many items requiring a ton of resources to upgrade, but that's your decision.
Will you hold up on defense? I guess it depends on where you plan on being trophy wise.
You'll get raided a lot, but it's not nearly as dire as some people make it out to be. I rushed my TH8 upgrade with (literally) TH5 quality defense and level 2-3 troops and I eventually got through it without buying any gems. I got raided not stop in the beginning, but as long as your active and farm a lot you'll be fine.

Again, as long as he is active he will be fine. I did the ultimate premie upgrade and I was fine, despite *gasp* losing out on lower level TH loot. Would I recommend it? I guess not, but sheesh it is a game at the end of the day.
