I have a question about what kind of troops to use for defense in clan wars.

We are currently using archers, wizards, and dragons for defense (all level 4 or above, but usually 5 or maxed).
We fill any clan castle under 20 troop capacity with wizards and archers and any clan caslte with 20 or above troop capacity with a dragon and archers and wizards. My question is: Should I fill the cc with more than 20 spaces with something other than a dragon? Or is my strategy good? I works well but the dragon survives the attack (most times) and any extra troops get killed almost instantly. Also, I have noticed minions have better DPS and HP at level 1 compared to archers at level 4, would they be a better alternative? Thanks!

Can't really go wrong with a Drag or wizzies in the CC.

Of course players with higher cap CC's might have more specific needs (Witch, Valks, etc) but for the most part a Drag or wizards are always welcomed additions (of course, depending on their specific needs).

A member in our clan I know for one always asks for a max lvl Golem. a strange request it might seem, but it's pretty funny watching replays of people surprisingly not knowing how do deal with it (i.e. they just dump a bunch of troops in an attempt to kill it, etc).

    It's pretty entertaining really.

Usually I find that dragons are too easily lureable, not really good with handling crowds, and can be killed really quick (a few archers around and then you just wait). My clan usually uses FULL wizard composition. Since they come in numbers, archers will have to poke at them one at a time and it'll buy some time and troops wasted in order to bring that whole pack away from the base. Screwing up killing one wizard and you'll have to waste alittle more troops and that's more than enough. In terms of them protecting, they kill giants instantly before they can react, one forgotten wizard can ruin a whole Hog attack.

But our clan ran with a successful experiment with Town Hall 8s. The requirements are that it must have a base design where it's either hard to lure Clan Castle, or the permeter is just on the edge of the wall. Usually Town Hall 8s have 25CC capacity so filling it up with 13archers, 3 wizards make it WAY harder for them to lure everything out, as it'll require more than a hog's time (since a cannon will be shooting at it) to bring everything out. A giant will only get withing range and bring out at most 11 archers or 13archers, 1 wizard leaving a few wizards forgotten inside. If they manage to take the clan castles out though, they'll have to waste even more valuable troops to round up all those 13 archers, and the farr behind wizards that just came out. Dragons really never worked for us to be honest, and we are around TH8-TH9 area for my clan, so I can't speak for clans above that range with TH9s.

    TLR
    TH7 20capacity:5 wiz
    TH8 25 capacity + defended CC permeter: 3 wizards, 13 archers.

    If available:
    TH8 25: 1 Witch, 2 wiz, 1 archer

Drags were never really good for defense just make a circle around them and they can't take advantage of their splash dmg and due to their slow firing rate, it will be dead in no time. Usually i like to have 3 Valkyries and a archer

Wizards and archers can't go wrong. Valk is good for the low level players.

I like two wizards the rest archers on 20 spaces lower. They still have enough dps to destroy nubs that don't pull quikly. If they stack right blindly throwing barb/ archers at them means your going to lose a lot of troops. It also takes longer to pull all of them. All wizards means there all grouped tightly and easy target for someone with a brain which there is no perfect clan castle troop for.
